|An Unusual costume choice for me, Many people didn't recognise me in this one! HAHAHAHa|
Gosh, This costume ended up being alot harder than I first anticipated.
All of the Motifs and badges were embriodered by hand using applique and a technique called couching. you lay a layer of threads down and stitch around them to secure them.
I used a vogue pattern for the jacket and an old fishtail skirt pattern for the Skirt. The jacket is fully lined and interlined! This makes it a very warm costume to wear!! I had to alter the pattern alot for the jacket, adding an extra panel in to achieve the square fronted look.
I Probably used around 3 different sizes of handmade silver bias on this costume, Alot of which had to be finished by hand which took a long time. But in reality edging a jacket with bais saves time, since you don't have to turn the whole thing inside out!
I also make a custom corset to wear under the jacket, which can just be seen the the photo! This gave a nice foundation to the costume and it also meant that I could take the jacket of and have something interesting underneath!
The hat foundation was made from buckram and I used millary netting for the details!
My Uncle kindly made me a Monocle and silver cross to go with the costume out of aluminum.
The wig, well, was a nightmare. It was my greatest wig challenge yet. I bought Too misty wigs from cosworx and some slightly darker wefted extensions. Once wig was canabalised for wefts. I parted the wig first, then I made two doughnuts using wadding and polystyrene shapes. I covered these with the darker extenstions and some lighter extensions taken from my old chii wig. All secured with HOTGLUE LOL!
The giant curls of doom!!! Argh, These where made by wrapping wadding around a poster tube. I glued boning around the tube to give it shape. I then Covered it will more darker extenstion and sewed to tubes into the base of the wig. The rest of the wig hair was wrapped around the tubed and secured with hairspray and hot Glue!
I styled the fringe with hairspray!
