Skirt remade (Posted 13th May 2012) I sourced some fabric that draped better. The pieces from the old skirt were used as the pattern and this time I stippled a light colour fabric paint onto the dark instead of the other way around. |
Wig, make up and lilac contact lenses (Posted 10th March 2012) My natural eye colour was a little too dark so instead of being screen accurate I bought lilac tinted lenses instead to match the book reference. The wig is a mix of white blonde, I've kept the style simple, taking pieces from the side, braiding some and tying them back. Make up was kept basic so that it didn't clash with the harsh contrast of the wig, using softer brown tones around the eyes, lightening the eyebrows and filling them out slightly at the same time. |
Vest complete (Posted 21st February 2012) I added a mix of brown leather thread and cord for the details, scouring and fraying the fabric here and there and around the edges. I cut away the fabric in places to get a better shape, fixed the brooches into place and added woven leather cord around the top edge. |
Brooch remade (Posted 21st February 2012) As I had to alter the size and shape of the vest slightly, the last brooch had to be downsized too. |
Hand wraps (Posted 7th February 2012) Strips of dark suede fabric was used for the hand wraps she's seen wearing for what I presume is a substitute for gloves whilst horse riding. |
Arm bracelet (Posted 28th January 2012) I found some stretch bracelets, painted them black and attached a thread of small black beads. Going to add these accessories from different references to make the costume more interesting. |
Vest base (Posted 16th January 2012) I used the mixed weave fabric, two pieces overlapping and safety pinned into place for now. I made sure the grain on each piece followed the references. I used velcro to fasten it at the back over a strapless bra and for the neck strap I plaited together a mix of brown wool. I'm planning to use the same fancy wool I used on the front panel of the skirt and brown suede cord around the edges to break them up and add the woven strips around the top. |
Necklace (Posted 8th January 2012) I'm adding a few accessories that she's seen wearing to make the outfit a little more interesting. Made from milliput with a bead on the end and a metal hoop at the top to attach a small chain to. |
Skirt (Posted 18th December 2011) Made from two pieces of beige suede that I added texture to. I fixed both pieces together at the front and it attached with velcro at the back. The off white piece was fixed on top around the front and left lose near the back so that it could be tied over where the skirt overlaps. I added a strip of beige fabric to hang down with the white as the ref's look like there may be a mix of fabric at the back. |
New leggings (Posted 18th December 2011) Decided to go with something lighter that wouldn't stand out if seen underneath the skirt. |
Skirt front piece (Posted 18th December 2011) I used the same fabric I've chosen to make the vest. For this I scored and frayed the fabric fibres and added beige wool mix in places. I added fancy wool around the edges to get rid of the straight lines a little and added the same wool at the bottom. It's attached to the skirt underneath the off white fabric around the waist. |
Belts complete (Posted 18th December 2011) Used the same process for the second belt and made the design more defined to match the reference. |
Belts (Posted 17th December 2011) Made from thin foam, primed and painted, then aged slightly to make them look more like metal. They were fixed to a strip of fabric to strengthen them and so they could be tied around the waist on top of the skirt. |
Skirt fabrc (Posted 11th December 2011) I'm using a beige coloured suede fabric, on the right is after I've added some texture with fabric paint to darken it slightly. |
Brooches and fabric sample (Posted 10th December 2011) The pennular brooch was purchased and the other two were made from milliput. The large brooch had a pin fixed to the back and the other had a safety pin. The fabric is also what I plan to make her tunic out of. |
Boots (Posted 16th November 2011) Found some bargain suede boots that matched the only good ref I found of her footwear, that already had the straps attached. I darkened them slightly. May wear leggings or stick with the brown tights. |
Dragon Eggs (Posted 6th November 2011) I used a plastic craft egg for the base and cut out the individual foam scales freehand so they were different shapes and sizes. I used a hot glue gun to add some texture around the one end to recreate the fossilised look they have. Drogon's egg has been sprayed black then grey with flecks of beige around the one end. The other two will follow shortly. |
