Description
She's hella-awesome as a character, her outfit is challenging but I think I can do it.

It's the first cosplay I've done in 4 years! That edging will be interesting, huh.

Ah Booo. (Posted 22nd August 2011)

So, I didn't get it completely finished for Aya.

But! I'll post some progress pics taken in my room before I wore it out for a bit. Gonna work on the bulkyness and heavyness of the sari itself, putting in some strategic hookeyes and velcro so it falls correctly and cut away literally all of the excess material that won't be seen.

Also I need to redo the boots. The idea worked, and they were fine for a while but the material was too thin and slightly stretchy, which had pros and cons. It meant it fitted my leg well while giving slightly, but it also means with the weight of the sole it stretched after a while and cracked. I'll probably put it over cotton or something.

Finally the tattoos didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but the concept of temporary tattoo paper will still work I think. Also I didn't get around to doing her right arm band thing.

However! I shall work on the last bits and pieces for Expo, so anyone going there can expect to see me....in the pub. As Fang.

Mezzin.

Week off - not so productive! (Posted 5th August 2011)

Well I spent a bit too much of my week working out and snuggling with puppies instead of stenciling and such. I've done the twirly bits though! The zig-zag part of the stencil wasn't as good though, it bled an aweful lot so I'll have to think of an alternative.

Also the backwards 'E' bit broke about 4 in, booooo. I can remake that though, it shouldn't take too long.

All the gold ribbon is sewed on too, gonna give the ironing a quick go tomorrow I think before I head back home.

Had an idea about the boots pattern! There I was struggling with measurements and wondering how something with 3 sides measuring 21cm, 35cm and 20cm would EVER work when I figured a sock is the right shape already! So I'll get at old one, mark where the holes are on the toe and heel, cut out the bottom and flatten it out. If I add about 1.5cm around the edge it should work quite well! So, boots this weekend plz.

=( (Posted 24th July 2011)

Did the stencil, tried it out and was all proud. Now I think it's too small...bugger.

The edging. (Posted 22nd July 2011)

I'm adding this after I've started, but hey.

Now that I've updated my To Do and To Buy sections I still have so much to do! Argh! Thank krist I've got the first week of August off. Going to my parents house where there's more floor space to spread out, and a patio bit to spray paint without fear =D

Gonna spend 1/4 of the week working out (need a flat tummy for this outfit), 1/4 doing stenciling/cutting/gluing/sewing/getting a haircut, 1/4 playing WoW and the rest of the time sleeping. Funnily enough, I'm really looking forward to it. Lolnerd.

So far of the edging I've got the material and paint and such, but still need to cut the stencil and, yaknow....stencil the damn thing. I've estimated the two bits of sari are 3m and 3.5m, edging on both sides, so in total 13m. Rather than make them in 3m blocks, I've decided to break it into 1.5m bits. That leaves some room for me to re-do a bit in case something drastic happens.

It will also hopefully save my eyes and back a little!

What I've done for the gold strip at the bottom, because it looks like it's slightly seperated from the white edge, I've folded and glued the ribbon and I'll stick that to the hem of the white before I hem it upside down...if that makes sense. So when I hem it it falls down slightly behind. Yea? I'd show you, but yaknow.

Anywho, there's a gold strip at the top too, and I'm thinking about doing that in gold pen. Any ideas? Gold glitter glue but without the glitter. That's my plan anyway. The zig-zaggy bit in the middle will hurt my back, as again that'll have to be by hand on 13m of material andasdlhaaargh! What have I let myself in to!! XD

This will all be done by the end of my week off, so I'll post a pic then.

xx
