Description
This was my second ever costume. My first where I had to fully make the patterns and print my own fabrics (struggled to find the correct tartan for the jacket).

In my early con days I was a huge Doctor Who fan (5th and 6th being my favs). I decided to go for the sixth Doctor's costume as I really fancied a challenge. Boy! it was a challenge.

I hand made everything as most of it from scratch as I was making this in the early 90's when most costume supplies won't readily accessible. The jacket was the hardest part to make. It is based on an Ewardian frock coat design so it had to tailored to fit. The tartan pieces had to be hand printed by me (silk screen printing).

The trousers I ended up making twice as I painted the strips on yellow fabric first. Didn't like the result so I replaced them with a second pair that where a striped fabric that I had dyed the right yellow.

In the end the only thing I didn't make was the shoes (I managed to find some the right colour in a sale).

This costume ended up being quite expensive as the wig is a high quality human hair one that I got as costume ones were really bad. Plus I couldn't find the right style.

I did enjoy putting it together and it was fun to wear. I wore it a few times at Doctor Who conventions through out out the early 90's. It has now been retired as I grew out of it. The various parts have now been sold on to new homes.

I did learn a lot from making this costume. I made my first ever jacket, waistcoat, trousers and spats when I made this. I also got to try out various methods like silk screen printing and embroidery (the red question marks on the shirt)

This is ace, I can't believe this was your second ever costume as its so well done . . . in the 90s when supplies must have been scarce, I can certainly see how much your talent has grown over the years. Good grief the pic of you with Sylvester McCoy IN COSTUME IN THE TARDIS is absolutely ace. I reeeeeeealy would have wanted to have stolen his cane though, I love that cane!!

Thank you hun. Yes, supplies back then were pretty much nonexistant so had to create a lot of things from scratch. Hee hee, the cane was very closely guarded but yes it was a great photo session.

Continuing the trip down costume memory lane. (Posted 29th June 2011)

I debated whether or not to post my early costumes as quite a few I no longer have. But since Doctor Who is growing in popularity again I thought I would share a couple of my old Doctor Who costumes.
