Costume Information

General
Cost : £30.00-ish (wig, mostly)
Time Taken : A while over a period of months (cause I'm lazy)

Description
Remaking Feena as I loved the reception it got at Ame, and I want to improve on it. And also because there's a possibility of a small Grandia group at Minami or AyaCon with some friends. <3
So remaking the top and skirt so they're more accurate and comfortable. Also getting a longer wig. and praying its not windy (or cold) when I wear it.

Top: Used a McCalls pattern for this (I'll find it later). It was for a floaty camisole top, but due to the shortness of Feena's top I only used the top tier of the shirt.
That all came together quite nicely.
Today (being 23/08/2008) I cut out the shapes for the sleeves, making them far too large on purpose. On the original I made them too small, so there were holes in the arm pit area. ><;;
This time it fit really well. Pinned and sewed the sleeves on and then sewed the sleeve together on the inside. Shortened the sleeve a little so its more mid-lower-arm length than full arm length, then hemmed that.
After that I added a strip of velcro down one side so I could actually pull the top on, because after adding darts to make the bust fit better, it was a little too small. I added a line of elastic to the bottom of the top so it doesn't gape as much underneath and you can't see my bra so much. Though I will be wearing a red or orange bra for this cosplay. ^^;
The sleeve patterns are felt. All drawn and cut out individually and then hand stitched into place. The ribbon on the bottoms of the sleeves was added at the end, using a craft knife to create the correct holes for the ribbon to go through.

Skirt: The skirt was just a length of fushia cotton I had. I kept the selvage edge so it wouldn't fray and hemmed the three other edges over. Its had two hooks and eyes sewn to it and differeing differences so I can make the slit bigger or smaller, depending how brave I've feeling that day.

Belt: The original belt was a cheap one I found in Primary, covered in fabric and painted. But I found that wearing it it became dislodged to easily and was very, very stiff. So using the same idea in principal I bought some white leatherette, much floppiwer and easier to manipulate. Glued the same fabric i used for the sleeves to the strip of leatherette I cut and then painted the pattern on using fabric paint and fabric pens of the same colour to get a good clean line. It holds together with a strip of elastic and a big snap fastener.

Boots: Boots are probably one of my favourite things of this entire outfit. They were a lucky find in Primark. They had some stupid tassells on them which were easily cut off. I cut fabric for the boot covers and glued them to the boots on the inside, and then painted on the pattern. The fabric was fairly flimsy, so I added some interfacing on the back to make them studier and less likely to blow about in the wind.

Headcones and dangles: The dangles were NO FUN. Its a length of felt painted. Then I have to cut two strips of velcro in hane and sew them to the dangles (HARD). Then they attached fairly easily. The headcones are again, felt. They're rolled up and stapled into the cone shape. To keep their shape and make them as non-flimsy as possible, there is interfacing glued inside them.
The felt was then painted with the pattern with fabric paint and holes were put on the top and bottom. The cones are attached to a hair band by see through elastic hair ties.

Side pack: Two sheets of felt cut in circles. Sewn together and two snap fasteners added to keep the top together (so its fully functional. YAY! A cosplay with somewhere to put things!) Then painted the pattern on with fabric paint. It attaches to the belt with two strips of elastic on the back which the belt goes through. :3

Travel pack: MORE FELT! Two sheets, sewn together then stuffed with wadding to make it thick. Painted the pattern, rolled it up and then kept rolled with a length of ribbon tied around it. Completely non-functional, but decorative. ^__^

Head cones (Posted 4 Months Ago)

So I started making the headcones last night. Basically didn't want a load of glue making them ugly so I stapled the edges together, turned the right side out and voila, no ugly glue.
To make them sturdy I glued some interfacing inside the headcones. Not my brightest idea ever because now the cones are kind of... well... huge.
Before they were too small, before that too floppy. Now they're a bit to wide.
So going to see if there's a way to make them a little smaller again, before painting them.
