| I love Edgar and his ladykilling ways. I dithered for a while over which version to do - I actually really like the clean design of the SD sprite, and there's fanart using that design that made it even more appealing - but there's something kind of intriguing about going for the full-out layered-and-bedecked version of the Amano. :D Edit: Not making this for Aya any more - not feeling the armour-making groove at the moment and I'd have to panic to get it done in time. Another time. :) | |

Trousers, wig, boots, fabric (Posted 19th July 2011) Huh, thought I'd posted this pre-amano version of Edgar - mostly what I'm taking from that is what he's wearing on his wrists, because WHY THE HELL NOT HAVE A SINGLE GAUNTLET. I have bought almost everything I need to make this costume, I think. Foam for armour, tops to butcher for the base layer, a glove to use for the gauntlet, fabric for everything, white boots.... even some bling for the armour! Need beads for his earrings and hair jewellery, though. I've almost finished his purple velvet harem-ish pants--they look ridiculous, omg. I have fabrics for the cloaks (going to give him three cloaks, ridiculous though that sounds--one sharp blue with navy trim on top, translucent gold with fringe under that, and a flimsy chiffony duller blue under that) and some striped pashminas to butcher for his waist swags. I have more purple velvet for his sleeves, which are going to be added to the base layer once I cut up the tees I bought in the charity shop and sew them together. And then the collar will be made out of the same fabric as the top cloak (or, at least, that fabric will make up the outer layer of it. :P). His armour needs to be started though--I have foam to make his breastplate and pauldrons from, just need to sketch out some templates before I start cutting. And I have some thin foam to use for the gauntlets, on top of a leather glove. I also have cut a carefully-shaped strip of pleather--need to add two press-studs to it to hold it closed, but it looks great for his right wrist. I also got my wig today--it'll have to be chopped, as it's currently rapunzel-length on me. Looks pretty with two bows in, though! Boots need to be cut down to the right length on my shins, and then I have to add the gold details. |

Art interpretation time! (Posted 6th June 2011) So the Amano art is (SHOCKINGLY) kind of awkward to parse into actual clothing. I decided to trawl around for other images (official and fanart) to clarify some of the issues. I'm specifically trying to work out the chest armour and general top-half shape/design. I'm planning on keeping the armour pieces blue, as that's definitely the Amano colour (a lot of art has it in brown, probably because of Gerad's outfit). Other than that, I've not really gotten much closer to a decision, but I've looked at a lot of very pretty art. :P Specific notes: The pinkish-red pauldrons in the bottom middle picture are pretty Amano-design-like, so I may draw on that also. The fanart on the far right makes me giddy-happy, so I might try to work some of that costume interpretation into mine--specifically the torso design. The top left-hand picture I like the earrings and hair-ornament from. :P I think, so far: Not sure what's going on at the back/base of the cloak. Are those yellow and blue/purple cloth parts extra undercloaks? Or really weirdly-attached trim? I think I'd rather do them as extra undercloaks but that's a lot of fabric. Hmmm. |

Oh wow! Edgar's one of my favourite FF characters~ <3 So glad you'll be doing it for Ayacon! A lot of FF characters pre-VII are difficult to find references for, aren't they? :S Using your own interpretations of some details is fine ^_^ Can't wait to see this!
Heh, part of why I'm doing this (apart from just loving Edgar himself) is because I get to interpret it myself--I'm usually so picky about trying to replicate all the canon details that it's nice to have some freedom! I'm planning on being rather liberal with the layers of drapery and the beading and so on. :D
Edgar is one of my favourite characters from FF, and possibly my favourite from this game. I really can't wait to see this!
Hopefully I'll have it finished for Aya! :)
