|This was my surprise AmeCon Omake costume, with free skit!|
In my current streak of retro video game costumes, we were wondering what on earth could follow up Purple Tentacle, we already had the foam skeleton, polycotton skin, crouching 4ft tall costume thing down, but to what use could it be put?
Bubble Bobble my friends, Bubble Bobble.
I literally grew up with this game, it was one of the few two-player games that me and my cousin never grew tired of (and never completed.. 3 lives and always starting on level 1 of 100? harsh.)
It's the same green and blue dinosaurs from the Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-move series, but BB came first dammit.
Sadly while the plan was to make a Bub and Bob duo, I only finished Bub 2 days before the convention and had to scrap Bob -- luckily Danov came up with a Boris (the coconut-hurling ghost-like bad guy) costume in time to stand in for Al as Bob.
I had all sorts of plans for this -- our bathroom is currently filled with various bubble-making toys I was testing to see if they could be used in costume. The answer was no. Mechanical ones rarely work at all, and while I found a fantastic manual flywheel based device, it had an open top, so any bouncing around meant an empty reservoir and a wet dinosaur.
For the omake itself I pieced together captured footage of the original arcade version, and mixed it to Machinae Supremacy's Sidology 3 - Apex Ultima, which includes a remix segment of the legendary Bubble Bobble theme. Cue wild dancing and air guitaring.
