|After my friend introduced me to No More Heroes and I came the second ranked assassin, I knew that I really wanted to cosplay her. :P The way her costume is a total contrast to her personality was a big hook for me -- sweet lolita with a sexy twist on a total whackjob assassin? Yes, please. It took a lot of planning to figure out how to go about constructing her dress, but I am very pleased with the final outcome.|
I altered a pattern for a sundress and used cotton twill in hot pink, baby pink and white for this dress. The dress is a red-striped hot pink pattern, and I knew that it would nearly impossible to find the perfect fabric so I sewed each stripe onto the dress myself. The stripes were red satin ribbon -- I like the way this turned out, I think the satin against the twill gave the texture of the dress some interest. I made a lining from the baby pink and sewed the metal hoop skirt into that. Then came the most tedious part -- box pleating! Pleating took a very long time and there was so much of it, I had a scare that I would run out of fabrics and I didn't have enough time to run to the fabric store and get more! Thankfully I had enough. The sleeves were gathered to make them all poofy and I attached sleeve cuffs with the cute buttons on them. :P I made the garters myself, after having found the most perfect pink ruffle trim and I painted the evil stilettos of doom pink and attached ribbons. Batting gloves were a very lucky eBay find!
All in all I absolutely adore this costume, and although, just like my Stocking costume, there are some things that need to be altered which became apparent while wearing it (sash is a teensy bit too tight, dress is a little too big around the shoulders, ribbons need to be attached more securely to shoes), I can't wait to wear it again. :P
