| The masked version of Hei. The Level of detail I put into this kinda took it a bit too far.. I'll start with the body harness; I built this from nylon flat rope and lots of foam, covered with a material used for car seats (hey, it looked cool). Its all right down to the cut and placement, including the daggers and sheaths. The daggers are Balsa and painted, I managed to find a template of them online and use that to make them look as they do in the anime. Tricky to get the size right as they're supposed to be discreet but quite hefty. The mask was also the other major thing about it, the first version I did wasn't very good, so I built a wireframe, covered that in plaster strips,finally sanded it down and gave it a good coat of car body paint for the porcelain look. It ended up having to be semi-permanently attached to my face using velcro strips, and really impaired my peripheral vision. I still havn't watched this anime but I have seen this character and many cosplays of it. You've done a really convincing one! I really like that mask.
On Sunday night at kita I rigged up blue strobe lights under my mask and in my sleeves. I can actually wear the mask and look out of it (albeit with a limited range of vision), the lining inside is black so it makes it hard to see my eyes, unless I activate the strobe lights :3
Out of everything the mask was the pain in the arse to do. If you look at other masks they seem a bit off, mishapen or out of proportion. Its really hard matching things to anime. The shape, fit, markings, eyes, size and feel took ages to get right. The red line for the mouth; depending on the way the head is tilted it'll look like a smile/grimace so getting it nuetral was annoying. Finally sanding it and getting the finish juuuuuuust right was a labour of love (!)

Must have been a weak bottle as my knives are balsa wood ^_^
There were two other BK201s there that I know of, I was the only one that was 6'1 with the mask on almost all the time ;D
Also had electric blue strobes on for the ball.
Your Hei is amazing, I especially love your mask, it's just so awesome.
I'm planning to do a July cosplay some time with my friend who is either attempting Yin or Kirihara, she hasn't decided yet, she may do both at some point.

I keep running into your page one way or another, and every time I do I click on this costume and admire the craftsmanship of your mask. Figured it can't hurt to tell you such! I don't know the character, unfortunately, but I admire the work standalone. That the mask shape is so clean adds to the creepiness of your costume: the ultrasmooth surface makes the face look even more uncanny-not-quite-human because it is so precise. The daggers look equally well-made. Too bad the photos don't really show the harness detail because it sounds like you were very precise with its construction.
Thank you ;D the character's mask isn't specified what it's made from, however it cracks and breaks like porcelain. That's the finish I had been going for, the constant sanding and spraying and more sanding.
I have some pictures of the harness, I'll upload them for you. My latest addition to this was blue strobe lights on the inside of the mask as his power is control over electricity.

Looking good BK201, I spotted an incredibly tall Hei at Expo :) I think that might have been you. Tried to make eye contact but you had no eyes lool or rather I couldn't see them
Nyahaha, I am over 6 foot tall and I always look friggin' stupidly tall in this costume. I was the only one who had the mask on all the time, you wouldn't be able to see anything of me other than tanned skin a liiiiittle bit of my neck.
