|After much deliberation and planning and deciding, I wanted to do the original Terra- with pauldrons and green hair. I forgot that a) I leave everything to the last moment if necessary (most of this was done in the 2 weeks leading up to expo), b) I can't craft anything that isn't fabric, and c) the postal system is not all it is cracked up to be|
This meant that I was making changes to the design as I was making and eventually just kind of pulled most of it out of my ass at the last minute. Which is how I work best. I ended up kind of going by the pattern on her dress from Dissidia since the fabric was plain red and I couldn't think of anything else to do/didn't want to hand sew a design onto it, which is five colours of fabric paint (gold, bronze, green, blue and purple) and some coloured beads as well meant to accentuate certain parts of the painting but due to lighting and colours and the fact that I'm not the greatest constructionist in the world kind of failed. But they're there. Promise. I had ordered a green wavy wig from ebay that arrived a week after expo (typical) so I ended up reusing the blonde wig I owned for Miki. That wig is now no longer able to be used properly - putting it into this ponytail kind of ruined it a bit, not to mention it was windy and there was a bit of messing around to be had - but I think it was worth it. I do now have the green wig, though, so if I ever decide to rewear her then I can be ~more original~.
The shoes were originally black leather from ebay; I found red leather paint at my local fabric store and painted them red, and attached some of the gold shiny stuff that I was going to use for L4V!Miki's outfit (I had a tonne of it leftover) with double-sided sticky tape to the toes and heels of the boots, which although not the neatest thing in the world, worked a treat the night before. Plus that stuff is sticky as hell, it's still not come off (written as of June 2012).
The capes were originally going to be normal hanging capes until I tripped on them for the millionth time and decided to tie them to the bangles, which gave them an interesting look and also meant I wasn't falling over every three seconds. Two capes were used after looking at an Amano art of Terra where she has, you guessed it, two capes. Also, capes are badass, and I wanted to be super cool. I didn't have anything specific in mind when I chose the colours, I just went for ones that looked like they would go well with bright red and were gauzey so I could get an interesting layer colour going on.
What else..... that's about it. The friends I cosplayed with were super sweet and I had so much fun with them being a part of an FFVI group - Locke and Relm I've known for about 7 years, so I was really thankful for them (especially Relm, who isn't that into the FF series as Locke and I) for joining in with me. Wouldn't have had nearly as much fun without them.
final note: the heels were absolute killers and I could barely walk all weekend because of them, but that might have been because I tried breaking them in with a week to spare and gave myself a blister in the middle of my right foot that hadn't healed properly.
final final note: STOP LEAVING EVERYTHING TO THE LAST MINUTE
