Journal

P30 scars (Posted 25th May 2011)

Make up test for the chest scars.

Plug detail (Posted 5th May 2011)

Added some black detail around the edges of the back pieces.

Back suit (Posted 18th March 2011)

Back made up of five panels with seam detail in grey and white.

Shoulder detail complete (Posted 18th March 2011)

A strip of black trimming and two pieces of the soft leather with the hexagon pattern was attached to the shoulder of the lycra suit with seam detail added.

Scorpion Pistols (Posted 15th March 2011)

These were a gift from Leadmill, imported from the US by a friend. I resprayed them back to their original colour using matt spray paint.

Front suit (Posted 14th March 2011)

Main bodysuit is almost finished, front made up of seven panels with seam detail in grey and white.

Shoulder detail (Posted 14th March 2011)

A strip of black trimming and two pieces of the soft leather with the hexagon pattern was attached to the shoulder of the lycra suit. The sleeves can be removed and now stay in place with three press studs on either shoulder.

Holsters (Posted 14th March 2011)

A light beige webbing was used, two loops one larger than the other with the largest loop having a quick release buckle. Two vertical strips then link both loops on each leg, tipped with black webbing and two strips of webbing sewn together link the loops inside the leg. The small loop on each leg attaches with velcro but since the holsters won't be taking the weight of the pistols the press studs and pistol loops are just for show.

Cloak complete (Posted 10th March 2011)

I remade the cloak from scratch. I couldn't find a suitable camouflage print fabric and I didn't want to use block black since there are shades of colour in the references. I ended up using heavy weight olive polyester, that is still quite dark and drapes nicely. I used an oversized cloak pattern and altered the front so that there's no seam and an opening half way up. I added a piece of draped fabric at the front over the chest. This is to imitate the effect at the front of the cloak as the darts I used to try and gather the fabric with fell out with the weight of the whole cloak. This separate draping section is sewn in at the shoulders and a seam was added over the top of the hood for detail.

Leg detail (Posted 27th February 2011)

I used the soft faux leather with the hexagons added to make a tapered tube that fitted my thigh and added seam detail to the top and bottom of each tube. I then marked the tubes against the black suit underneath and stitched the suit to the tubes on either side at the top. This was enough to keep them in place whilst not distorting the lycra suit. I then added the two small white seams underneath the blue sections at the front.

Suit detail (Posted 27th February 2011)

As I was using a suit I had already made previously, to add the white seams down the legs I had to unpick the outer leg seam to the top of the thigh. Two seams for the back/front of each legs were added and then the suit was sewn back together.

Gloves and cuff (Posted 19th February 2011)

The gloves were made from stretch black coated lycra and the top part was sprayed with blue fabric paint to match the faux leather and the hexagon pattern added to both sides. The gloves are separate from the sleeves and a strip was added to each sleeve to make the cuffs.

P30 test (Posted 13th February 2011)

Attached the chest piece with spirit gum and fixed the tubes down with body tape. Added some latex veins and make up but the suit covers most of this so may use heavy make up effects next time to make it noticeable.

Sleeve progress (Posted 12th February 2011)

I decided to make the sleeve in sections. This is the main section, with the coloured faux leather on top with the hexagon stencil and stretch lycra underneath and a tube of ribbed fabric attached above that. There is seam detail but it doesn't show here. I'm still working on the shoulder sections and the gloves will be made separate so that I can easily remove them when needed.

Side detail (Posted 12th February 2011)

Attached a strip of webbing to either side which the holster webbing will hang from. The strips are removable and fix into place with velcro. (I doubt I will holster her pistols in them, unless I reinforce the webbing at a later date). I used this process rather than sewing them into place in case it effected or damaged the way the side panel stretched when I got into the costume.

Back detail (Posted 12th February 2011)

This was finished off by adding the silver strips between the circle pieces.

Circle back pieces (Posted 4th February 2011)

Added the circle back pieces. The strips that connect them to each other will be fixed into place next.

Collar (Posted 30th January 2011)

The collar was finished with black stretch lycra at the sides and black trim was attached to the edge. The four pieces that stick out at the back of the neck are plastic tubing and were pushed through the piece of black leather section and glued into place in the inside of the collar.

P30 device (Posted 11th December 2010)

The main aim of this was to make it as light as possible so that it would stay fixed to my chest better when using the spirit gum. The main part is red plastic, cut and filed down and heated to give it a slight dome shape. Black foam was stretched around the edge of the plastic and fixed into place with a thin layer of PVA to give it a semi reflective surface. The connecting tubes are clear rubber (still need to be trimmed) and I finished it off with a green LED that can be seen in one or two of the clear screenshots. I finally added a faint image of a circuit board to the back.

Back pieces (Posted 11th December 2010)

All 10 pieces were shaped and sanded by hand. They were then primed, painted black and then chrome, masking out the centre area.

Blue fabric + pattern (Posted 11th December 2010)

The pieces for the main blue bodysuit were cut out and the purple hexagon pattern added to each piece before sewing. I wanted the overall effect to be subtle, keeping the primary shade blue.

Boots (Posted 28th November 2010)

I could have just sprayed the boots the same colour as my fabric and added the hexagons on top but her boots have more detail so I used the soft leather to cover them instead, creating the seams. This was a painstaking job and required a lot of patience, each piece of fabric had the hexagons added to them first then each piece was shaped to the boot and fixed into place whilst I wore them. Four separate pieces of fabric were used for each boot, making sure to leave a space at the boot angle and the top of the boots were cut into shape at the front.

Wig test (Posted 13th November 2010)

Wig test and the suit will be used as the base. The wig has now been shortened.

Mask complete and cloak progress (Posted 13th November 2010)

Finished mask with two red LED lights to make the eyes glow, the eye holes are covered in red acetate so that I can still see out. The cloak is a camo poncho and after I've finished darkening it so that the pattern is more subtle I will alter it so that it has sleeves and opens at the front.

Hexagon stencil test (Posted 13th November 2010)

Here's the first test with a stencil and fabric paint on my fabric samples, I've decided the paint will need to be a lighter coat for the effect to be more subtle on the finished suit. The fabric here is soft navy pleather for the main part of the suit and black stretch lycra. The hexagons are smaller IRL, this is just a close up shot.

Mask progress (Posted 7th November 2010)

I had few mask references and from what I can tell from game footage the mask is possibly metal. I bought a simple venetian mask and modified it. At first I extended the beak with foam and covered it with black felt but the surface texture was too flat and didn't reflect any light. So I used some wet look metallic stretch lycra instead. I fixed the extension of the foam beak into place first and glued the fabric over the entire mask. I cut out the circle eyeholes in the fabric and added some small rings of black foam around the holes to give it some detail. I'll be adding some red acetate behind the eye holes to finish it off.
