Description
A very rough version of Jade from the little known game called Beyond Good and Evil. Originally created for a fancy dress party from things I had in my wardrobe. It was added to and modded very quickly for the Expo in May 2008. However I plan to re-do it with proper attention to detail for the Video Games Live Concert in Oct 2008. As at present it is more of a 'impression of Jade' rather than an accurate cosplay. I originally chose this costume as it was an easy one to do with the clothing I already owned. For the original fancy dress party I made the staff and bought green lipstick, and left it at that. After a bit of a last minute decision I re-painted the staff with a better gold, created the camera more accurately and constructed the console/bag she carries from a pizza box and sticky back plastic. I also love the character from the game and think that she is one of the best female leads to have come along in such a long time and it is a sad fact that the game did not do well. However the game was brilliant for it's time it was just released at the wrong time and got overshadowed. So I wanted to bring life to a character that deserves a lot more recognition that it got. I have to say the creation of this costume has been an interesting one. I love the staff and this is my proudest achievement and it's fun to run around with. :P Yet I do need to varnish it as acrylic paint comes off very easily. I also dyed one of my jackets for this, although I think it needs another go through the machine as the original flower pattern is still showing through, but the jacket is the closest shape I could get without making it from scratch. So I'm not really very proud of that jacket yet. I also did make her little rucksack item, however this was constructed well, with a lot of help from my little sister it did not hold the weight of the staff well and snapped when I was at the con so it got put in bag and didn't see the light of day again. This I would like to make properly for the costumes official outgoing into the VGL competition. The camera was also an interesting make, as I created that with my little brother when I was staying with him. He built and Nintendo Wii out of cardboard and I built the camera with not much idea in mind to what I was creating. Later on I modded this original one to look more like the one from the game and although it is missing in some areas of detail in others I am quite proud of how close I got it. I even have little pink discs to throw just like she does in the game. (Used for puzzle solving aspects and guard distraction.) Overall for a costume that has been made out of my own wardrobe and what can be found lying around the house and what's left in the recycling box I think I did a pretty good job. I was very rushed for time when creating this though so I would like to do it properly the next time around. And as far as I am aware there has only been one other Jade at a convention, and I believe I was the first for the UK. Which isn't that surprising considering how unknown the game it. :)
