|Koume: "But I'm only 400 years old!"|
Kotake: "And I'm just 380 years old!"
Koume: "We're twins! Don't try to lie about your age!"
In case you don't know who they are, let me fill you in. Kotake and Koume are old twin Gerudo witches who were responsible for raising Ganondorf, and act as the bosses of the Spirit Temple in Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (although they also make a few other appearances in the series). It is (in my opinion) one of the best games of all time, so I always knew I would make a costume to homage it. I always loved their boss battle the best, especially when they became Twinrova, she was hot back in the day! :P
The idea came about at the previous MCM Expo, when I was inspired to do their combined form, however my sister wanted in on it and thus we settled on Kotake and Koume! It made sense, I mean we argue all the time too, but when we work together we make an unstoppable team! :D It didn't take long to decided who would be who, I have always got the colder coloured Pokemon games (blue, silver, sapphire, etc.) and Kotake is the one that claims to be the youngest (me being the young sister in reality, obviously).
This has to be by far the most expensive and time-consuming sets of costumes to date, but definitely my favourite. My sister and I worked together to create them, with her being in charge of the robes and me being in charge of the headdresses. It literally took me weeks to make those bloody headdresses, but I am dead proud of them now. Each headdress contains 5 different coloured materials weaved through a wire and mesh frame. Attaching the mesh to the wire frame took long enough (and totally destroyed my hands in the process), let alone the addition of the material. I did really enjoy weaving the strips of material through it though. I did get a little carried away, there are so many layers to them that they ended up being incredibly heavy. Even though we worked together, we were living in different parts of the country with only webcams to compare progress, but despite this the patterns and colours ended up quite similar (the only issue was I made my sisters headdress too big, so she had to wear it a bit lower!).
Seeing as it was Halloween, it was the perfect opportunity to wear these at the MCM Expo October 2010. I was surprised by how many people actually recognised us, I knew Ocarina Of Time is a very popular game, but the witches don't play a particularly large part, after all they only really appear at the end. Saying that though, I think only one person actually remembered their names, everyone else just called us "Twinrova". Not that I didn't expect that, I could barely remember their names beforehand anyway! XD
