| My original Rydia got a really good reception, which surprised me. And I found it really comfortable to wear. But I was unhappy with it because of how unlike the referance pictures it looked. So I'm going to make a version two of the costume. I'm keeping the sleeves and the sash from the original costume. I'll just be improving on those (embroidering stars onto the sleeves and painting on a pattern to the sash). I'm going to remake the bodice, make it more like the ref picture, and make it more decorative with the gold lining and the fluer-de-lis-esque patterns. I'm remaking the cape too, just making it a little longer, and going to paint on the pattern, rather than spray it on. I'm also going to make the headdress a little more elaborate too. The main bit shouldn't take to long. The time is going to go into the details. But I'm hoping this will look a lot better! :3 19/07/2008 Well - I went through everything. This is pretty much complete. I have to finish the head dress and decorate the whip, but that shouldn't take too long. YAY! Pretty much finished! :B 17/08/2008 Finished the stars. They have all been appliqued into place and will freakin' stay there. Hurrah. Now all thats left is anohter respray of the boots, elaborating the headdress and decorating the whip a little. ...So on the home stretch. :B 01/07/2008 Haven't worked on this in a while. I'm waiting for some stars to arrive from Hong-Kong so I can applique them on in size order (ref pictures show Rydia has larger stars at the bottom of the sleeves and smaller stars going up) so I have ten large stars on the way, and thirty small stars currently. These will hopefully be appliqued again on my up coming two weeks off. :3 11/06/08 UGH. I give up with the freakin' embroidery. I really do. I pull the damn thread as tight as bloody possible finish the star, pull the embroidery loop away and the thread is just... there. It could catch on ANYTHING. So I give up. I've going to look around for some nice gold applique stars and sew them on instead. They'll look effective, and I'll be more comfortable to use them and walk around with them because the appliqued stars would stay on and be less likely to fall off. I might even put on some bells. 08/06/08 Finished the cape... well, mostly. I'm still not sure if I should leave the gold part of the cape at its current length or cut it shorter... still trying to decide. Going to start embroidering the sleeves today... I hope. X_X 04/06/08 Okay, so the dress is finished. All the embroidery is done. Outlined the green stars with gold thread. Its not especially noticable, but it looks good close up. Now I have to start embroidering the stars on the sleeves. And I hate gold embroidery thread. With a passion. Its so... irritating! And this so better be worth the trouble. 03/06/08 *mutters* This embroidery better be worth it in the end... *gets back to it* 31/05/08 The tabbard is complete! The bodice is about 75% complete too, I started the embroidery today. I'm just dotting stars around everywhere to cover it. Hopefully it shouldn't take more than a few days. I find the embroidery really quite theraputic. :3 I painted the pattern onto the sash too. So the sash is finito! 29/05/08 So! Sewing on the bodice is all finished. Now its DETAIL TIME! *death* Cape is all sewn together, again. Detail time. And the tabbard is also made. I've added the strip of lighter, different tone green down the centre, and I'm currently slip stitching gold ribbon to the edges. I'll be getting some thinner gold ribbonto do down the middle. And hopefully will be starting the embroidery on the bodice over the weekend. Good bye sanity! 28/05/08 Started tonight. I got the main bodice finished. Which I'm so pleased about. Its a lot nicer than the previous one. And all green! Rather than green with a gold-ish underskirt. I've also pinned the cape, which I'm making longer than the previous one. I just have to pin the bottom and cut the slit up the middle of it, then I can sew it tomorrow. I love having quiet evenings to myself. I get so much done! :B Progess: Tabbard: 100% Dress: 100% Cape: 100% Sleeves: 100% Sash: 100% Head dress:50%-ish Boots: 100% Whip: 30% | |

It looks lovely so far! I really like the stripes on the front, and the fabric for the cape. :)
Have you been using a stabalising fabric behind the embroidery? I also suggest making smaller stitches to cover larger areas, that will stop the issues with the thread looking wrong when you remove it from the hoop. Using such a thin material can be troublesome when embroidering (I try and stay away from satins unless it's duchesse as they can be a bugger to sew and don't look great...), you need the stability of a straight grained material behind it. You can then cut away the excess stabliser material around it and you will be left with a nice solid piece of embroidery.
The effect of the gold on the green looks fantastic though, I admire your patience ^^
looks way cool! love the floatyness of it- very etheral ^^
woh, I hope you'll be wearing this in October, Yeah I am so pleased with the tail, only problem is how to bring it to London without it getting bent in my stuff lol, mabey I could wear it on the way to London lol.
looking good, I liked the version you wore at may expo, so I can imagine this one looking just as good
Your working so hard on this :D
Weldone :P im liking so far :D
In response to the comment on Reborn, that's not me but my brother, and I bent wire intu curls and sprayed it black. The wire then hooks around the back of his head and ears so they blend in his black hair.
As for Rydia, I saw it at the Travelodge when the fire alarm went off and it looked great, even though most people were half done lolol.
:3 that looked awesome I saw it :D
Really awesome costume, finally another FFIV fan! You looked amazing, so pleased I got to see it in person. Now I need to get an FFIV cos together!
