|I'd been wanting to make a Pokémon gijinka cosplay for some time, but could never really settle on which Pokémon to choose. I debated Dratini or Dragonair for a while, but the way I wanted to make it wouldn't have been very practical, so instead I chose one of my other favourite Pokémon - Drifloon! I love how Drifloon is quite sinister despite being adorable (go and read Bulbapedia's page on Drifloon if you don't know what they're like!), and I think it could make for some interesting photos.|
The yellow gloves were the first part I made for this costume, and they are made out of some scrap yellow lycra I had left over from a Rogue (X-Men) costume I made for a friend. They were a handsewing job, which I normally don't like doing, but I like the outcome.
I knew from the start that I wanted to make a hooded dress, and I made the top half out of purple lycra in about an hour (a simple two-piece vest and a hood was all it took). The skirt part was made as a circle skirt, and because I fail at maths, I accidentally cut the waist far too big. However, I gathered it instead (and discovered that gathering slippery, stretchy fabric is rather irritating), and I like the way it's turned out. The hem has a zig-zag pattern cut into it, and this needed to be done twice because the first time I did it, the skirt turned out to be too long for my liking...so I had to cut it all off and start again! I like it, though. :3 I finished the dress off by adding a yellow X shape made out of felt onto the front.
The white "cloud" part on the hood is an old, cheap judge wig that my sister was throwing out, but I decided to use it for this instead. It's safety pinned on, so that if I'm not happy with the position, I can easily change it.
I'm really happy with the way this turned out even if it was a rather simple costume!
