|Because I *am* a beautiful and unique snowflake.|
Just like everybody else.
I wanted to try my hand at some form of original design for the Ball, and whilst shopping for Higurashi wigs came across this white ponytail wig that I fell in love with. It reminded me of fallen snow, so the idea was born from that.
The corset is bought from ebay (and seems a touch small for my boobage!). I covered most of it in two layers of this strange material I found. One layer of silver, covered by one of white - it gives an icy look. At the top of the corset I left the brocade uncovered and followed some of the design with a variety of blue, white, silver and iridescent beads. I also sewed on some trim and matching pieces from a shopping trip to Barnett & Lawson where I bought about everything that vaguely resembled wintery things! This trim is a bit painful to the underarms - it's very stiff and a bit pointy - so I need to remove sections of it if I want to wear this again. The beaded trim on the bottom was donated by Delusional, as was the fluffy trim on the bolero.
The skirt was originally meant to be a large hooped skirt. I found a gradient dyed satin that went from off-white to pale blue and made the skirt, but because the fabric wasn't very wide I could only just fit the pattern pieces on without regard for bias etc., and as a result it hung very strangely on the hooped petticoat. It was also too short at the front, a fault of the pattern.
Instead, with some assistance from my partner, the skirt was draped and pinned at the back in a kind of bustle style. The pins were silver satin brooches, somewhat resembling snowflakes, which I really loved - unfortunately both of them went missing during the course of the Ball itself, which I'm very sad about! I miss my bumflakes :(
I decided to make a bolero jacket both for a little warmth and to cover my massive shoulders that block out the sun - corsets make them look even huger! It's made from a white brocade with stiff white wide organza sleeves and looks like something out of Buck Rogers when not teamed with the wig.
The tiara took me about half an hour to make and I really enjoyed doing it, so I may consider doing commissions! It's made with the same beads as are on the corset, as well as some diamante and clear leaf designs.
Jewellery was all purchased as is, except the belt which was some old jewellery donated by Tak and strung together. Boots are white wedding boots with a sensible heel. Makeup is pale blue and silver eyeshadow over dark blue eyeliner, with silver eyeliner designs just below the eye - subtle but there. Some silver eyeshadow used as blusher. Blue lipstick. No special foundation, I'm always that pale :P
I'm going to list it as complete but there's a couple more parts to the design that I may add - I also got a sparkly white satin that I was going to make a small overskirt from, and I want to get new bumflakes! I also had diamantes on my nails that came off before the event. And there's some more bling that wants adding :)
