|Huge dress is huge ^-^ I love the detail which has been put into the image (as with every of CLAMP's drawings) and it just looks so pretty! I am going to have to work out some kind of footwear though, walking around the MCM expo without shoes does not seem too appealing.|
I will be wearing this in 2013 (a super long way away) for the May euro cosplay qualifiers as I will finally be old enough to enter. I find this frustrating, as I would love to enter now, but in some ways it is a blessing as it gives me time to mature in my cosplaying skills and techniques.
I will be using scallop hems around all 9 layers (which I can see) and then either painting the design on the layers or using gold cord to add a bit of dimension to the dress. The headdress will be made with a sealed craft foam (probably with fibreglass resin) painted and then pompoms will be added. I will probably dye half of them to add a colour variation. To keep the headdress on I will either sew it to the wig or attach it to a headband. I will then use a very fine tulle and use wire along the edges to keep it standing. This can then be covered up by either paint or gold cord.
I am planning on using a 3 hoop petticoat which I already have and then I will create an additional one which will hold the the shape of the back off the dress with several layers of tulle which will hide and possible lines from the boning of the hoop skirt and also protect the bottom layer of the dress from getting too dirty.
I doubt I will wear it around much during the day of the qualifiers, mainly because it will be too large to fit round the hall. I will take the costume with me and get changed into for pre-judging and then once again for the performance. This is going to be my most expensive project by far, so I will take it slowly, probably starting work on it next year during the summer. A daunting task lies ahead of me, but I hope that I can do CLAMP justice.
