| First Crossplay! I think El has been bugging me to be schneizel for about a year now.. LOL But Actually I think I'll enjoy playing charming for a day! (Hopefully I will survive the fangirls) OK! All finished now! Where to start with this one. Schniezel was an incredibly hard costume for me to get the proportional right, since he is like 9 heads tall and Well I am not. So I made some proportionality compromises. I basically extracted a chunk of him from the middle! The costume is one of layers. Each layer had to be completed before progressing onto the next one! I started out with a purchased dress shirt, I created his scarf/cravat out of the same fabric I made the tailcoat out of and sewed it onto the shirt. The whole think does up at the back with snap fasteners. I cast the green bead with hotglue in a bakery measurement cup and covered it with fabric. I also made mathcing cufflinks with cover buttons and satin. ^^ Since you never see schneizel without his coat, I decided to design the wasitcoat without sleeves so that I would not die from the heat! I pretty much ended up using a dress pattern and added on the lapels and collar. The whole thing was edgded and trimmed with handmade bias binding and black velvet. It fastens using a long hidden zip and snap fasteners. The belt was made using a piece of bulkram with more bulkram covered shapes and strips. It fastened with velcro at the back! The trousers where bought and altered to fit and flare correctly. The tailcoat was a nightmare, I mean a real night mare. It was mostly the tails rather than the collar, which really surprised me. The whole tailcoat is interlined and lined in red cotton. I used bulkram to Give the collar is shape and the tails are attached with seperate pieced of fabric to the collar (The litte yellow flicks conceal the seam)) Once I had sewn that tails and collar on and connected it to the lining, The whole coat was edged in handmade and handfinished bais, which took ages, mostly beacuse the width of the bais changes in the transistion betwen the collar and tails >_<. Each of the gold flicks was made by initally cutting the shape out of bulkram and covered them in fabric. Each flich was then hotglued on! The epaulettes were made using two pieced of craft foam stuck onto a buckram base and covered in fabric, The fringe was made from another piece of fabric and was hotglued on. These attach using velcro, so I can move them to transport the costume. The wig was ordered from Amphigory.com through katie bair. i really love it, When I get the chanve I am going to dye it, since schneizels hair is a little more yellow! | |

EPIC COLLAR OF DOOM (Posted 3rd October 2008) Schneizel AKA Gay face This costume is alot harder to make than it first looked. I tend to rank things on a seth Scale (Don't ask me why..) With the difficulty of seth being a 1. I'd guess so far this is a 1.2. Anyways rambling aside. This costume a bit like caterinas is made up of layers. which mean that all of the lower layers have to be constructed first. This Left the top layer, dubbed the "Shrug Tailcoat" last. I was not particularily happy about this since it was going to be the hardest piece to construct. So far this costuem has.... I am about half way through making the Shrug Tailcoat. So far it is going well. The tails are proving to be alot more complicated then I first expected, especailly when compared to the construction of the collar. The collar is constructed out of a piece of stuff buckram that is covered in velvet and red cotton using bondaweb. The collar then leads into the tail sections! This costume will be pretty fun to wear, even it I cannot move my arms and will be dying of hyperthermia.. AGAIN.. ITS NOT COSPLAY UNLESS... URGH. |

I can't explain why, but you just seem to *fit* Schneizel. Maybe it's the tall and elegant factor. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
