|8.12.2011: I may take this along to Kita but won't necesarily wear it unless I come across a photo opportunity I can't resist. Alternatively, I might wear it to one of the parties. |
My second costume and my first time following a pattern which is pretty much why I chose this costume: it was simple to adapt a pattern for and a great learning experience.
Dress: The dress was adapted from simplicity pattern 5561 and was made out of white denim. The front panel was elongated and cut in two to insert the zipper (silver, metal teeth with brown polyester rimming). Once I'd constructed the dress (hand sewing) it, as well as the straps and pockets, was dyed using medium yellow Procion MX dye. It almost went orange! Luckily the washing machine saved it. By this point my Mum had picked up a sewing machine for £10 from a charity shop so I topstitched on the lines with Gutermann topstitch thread colour 448. The dungaree clips were bought at John Lewis and threaded onto the straps along with metal sliders to make them adjustable. After the topstitching had been completed the pockets were sewn onto the back.
Zip pull: made out of salt dough, spray painted silver and then glued on.
Necklace: The pendant was made from salt dough and threaded onto a chain.
Boots: ebay. They're extremely comfortable to wear. I was tempted to paint the belt decoration a lighter colour for extra accuracy but I rather fell in love with the boots too much.
Wig: Ebay. It was already flicked out so didn't require too much styling. I decided to go for natural outflick as opposed to Selphie’s three separate flicks.
Bracelet: Made out of blue ribbon and poppers.
Nunchaku: Made from papier mache on chicken wire. The chain was plastic from a hardware store spray painted silver.
Damn the wig (Posted 20th July 2010)
It slipped back... Next time more pins. Hmm I already used an entire pack of bobby pins.
Also the bracelet will need redoing due to some frayage of the ribbon, but that's easy enough.
