|This was originally planned for this year's MinamiCon ( 2010 ) and I really wanted to wear it for the Masquerade, but obviously that fell through so I'm going to re-schedule this for AmeCon 2010 instead.|
The idea to cosplay as Eike came about probably around 2 or 3 years ago now when I was looking at the “ What Cosplay Would You Most Want To See “ topic on the AmeCon forum. I racked my brains to think of something that I really, really loved but which I had never yet seen cosplayed before, and I thought of Shadow of Memories since it is one of my most favourite video games and has such a fantastic and intriguing story and yet I had never seen any cosplay, fan-art, fan-fiction or anything at all for it. The fandom for it seems very inactive - I’d never even heard it mentioned in passing conversation and I feel that it deserves more recognition so I really wanted to do something by doing a cosplay from it. When I mentioned it on the forum topic I was actually really surprised that I got several replies from a few other people saying that they had in fact heard of the game and loved it too ( I was honestly expecting most people to not have heard of it or have ever played it ) so I was pleasantly surprised ^_^
Eike wears the juggler disguise during Chapter 4 of the game.
He dies through being stabbed in the back and has to travel back in time to shortly before the attack so that he can warn himself to be prepared and take action against it happening. Because of the rules of time-travel it was best for him to do it in disguise to stop the other Eike from recognising him and he warns him via a written message which he hides in an ornamental egg that he throws to him.
I was actually a bit hesitant about cosplaying as Eike because he’s just so damn tall and I’m... err... not! >,< However I’ve since noticed quite a lot of topics popping up on different forums discussing the issue of height and weight in cosplay and the general opinions of most people seem to be along the lines of “ don’t worry too much about it and just do what you love “, so I finally decided that I was just going to say “ whatever “ and do this cosplay anyway. My favourite character is actually Hugo Wagner but I like Eike’s outfits a lot more than Hugo’s which is generally just an earthy brown colour just like much of everything else is in his time period. I like Eike’s standard outfit the most but I chose to do his juggler disguise outfit first since a ) I couldn’t really afford to get it commissioned and then shipped over here and I thought that his juggler outfit should be just about simple enough for someone with minimal sewing experience such as myself to make and b ) I don’t think that the height difference between me and the character looks so big in his juggler costume since Eike’s legs are quite long and you just can’t see the length of his legs when he’s dressed up as the juggler since they are covered.
This was the first cosplay that I've made by myself and although there are a couple of things that I'd tweak I think that it turned out fairly okay considering that I'm not very experienced with textiles. We did a photoshoot at Lindsey Court because it has a nice area with lots of cobble-stones and interesting shallow steps which reminded me a bit of Lebensbaum, which is the little rural village that the game is set in.

Main Accessory Painted (Posted 21st May 2010)
I've now finished painting the main accessory. The key colour is fine and while the secondary colour isn't 110% identical to the reference image ( since I had to mix up a colour for it ) it's pretty damn close so I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out ^_^
Thankfully the areas where it's meant to look symmetrical turned out to look okay, too.
