| I knew I wanted to make a Pretear costume, but there are so many lovely dresses to choose from, I had trouble deciding on one! I ended up choosing this one because I already had a lot of the materials, and found the blue fabric very cheap. I had difficulty deciding how to make the blue dress – specifically how to make it gravity-defying. I thought about using wiring the hem, but what I was concentrating on was keeping the dress flowing, so I chose to make a very full skirt, scallop the hem, and finish it with lettuce edging. The white layer underneath allowed me to use thin blue fabric for the overlay, so it's nice and floaty! A petticoat gives the main floofiness, so I left it at that. I also managed to avoid a seam at the waist by making the dress from very large pieces, so it's fairly true to the artwork. I only have side seams and a zip down the back. I decided to use felt for the scalloped collar because it doesn't fray, although I couldn't get a good colour match. I've since considered replacing the trim on the dress with a more accurate colour, but that would mean finding matching gems, so at the moment it's staying as it is. The wig is more natural take on Himeno's hair. Styling it was simple, even as my first time cutting in a fringe. Surprisingly the boots were easy too. I simply cut a pair of knee-high boots into the scalloped shape and carefully lowered the stoppers on the zip. I really love how they came out, but they're painful. I think wandering around in my socks may have spoilt the elegance of the outfit... | |
