A Subaru to go with my Seishirou >D And my fave of all Subaru's outfits.
This is a commission I'm working on for Nadesico Kitty.
Making something for someone else when they're not close by to try it on is always a bit of a guessing game, but luckily this isn't a costume that needs to be too fitted. I'm only making the top half of this costume as hakama are a little out of my comfort zone.
The under robe (I’m sure that there’s a proper name for it) is just made out of a light plain cotton to stop this being too hot and heavy to wear in summer. The collar is two tone layered to give the impression there are more layers than there actually are while, again, keeping weight and thickness down.
The outer robe is made for a much thicker and heavier cotton drill to give the costume shape and definition. This part came together much quicker and easier than Seishirou’s as this time I knew what I was doing rather than experimenting. XD Subaru’s is also far simpler because it doesn’t have an obi and only needs one appliqué to be made of the pentagram on the robes back. I’m not too sure yet just how I’ll go on about making the decorative knots on the front of the robe.
That’s going to be fun.
Had to make a few adjustments to the robes, but it's all done know. The knots and rear pentagram appliqué weren't as difficult to make as I thought they would be. The knots were made from the same cord used in the sleeves and for the appliqué I just used my sewing machines zig-zag stitch and black fabric paint for the symbol.
I'll try and get some photos of NK in this costume at Ame. ^_^
