|I fell in love with the artwork for this manga and loved the idea of the challenge of giving myself a violin shaped form. I originally planned for it to be worn over a waist reducing corset, but found that the material was too thick and warm.|
The costume consists of a heavily padded out bodice made from a soft antique suede with metalwork inserted into the seams to give the violin shape with reverse appliqué detail on the front, ruffled trim and a back lacing finish. It is worn over a set of highly ruffled and gathered sleeves which were hand dyed to give a watercolour effect. Over this are the brown suede bracers, which are heavily quilted and embellished with free machine embroidery in gold. The violin strings are attatched to a set of keys which are mounted on a comb set into my wig.
This costume took a long time, and was really uncomfortable to wear! The rigid structure meant I couldn't put my shoulders back properly and had very restricted movement. I love the look of the costume however, and especially liked the dramatic effect of holding the violin bow.
