|I decided to make this costume because i was sick of drawing this guy for 11 years and wanted to be artistic in another way, so i figured actualy *making* his outfit would be an interesting way to broaden my art skills.|
I wanted to make it as realistic, detailed and glittery as possible.
The hardest part was making the hat... and the body suit part. I have no sewing training so making a full bodysuit from scratch was HARD. I had to change it 10000000times and nearly lost my sanity in the process lol. The hat was hard because it literally was HARD, it's solid and weighs a ton and the amount of needle cuts i recieved from it only made me hate it more venomously lol. Trying to sew through hardshell papiermache that's been varnished in wood gloss... don't try it.
The easiest part was the shirt. It only took 3 days and not a lot of fabric.... though... i don't have a serger to stop it all fraying randomly.
I learnt so much about costuming from this project, way too much to list and there's so many changes i would implement if i was making this costume again. Like STRETCHY FABRIC instead of silk cutting off my circulation lol... also I'd get rid of the corset because it hurts a lot.
All that stuff paid off though because when i first wore it at Auchinawa and walked down the corridor to the Cosplay hall, all the looks i got made me forget how much i hated making this thing, lol.
Now I'm having to wear it again in London on the 18th for the Guinness World Record cosplay event. SEGA asked me to be their mascot ^^ That makes me so happy words can't explain.
