Ruth's awesome artwork

Costume Information

Cost : roughly £70 plus the Y5000 i spent on the velvet.
Time Taken : 3 weeks

Ruth's art project ... she's amazing. She's constructed this whole world and line of characters for it.

I'm so so so happy I'm part of it, it's so exciting.

So yes .... I did some concepts while in Japan ... and this was my favourite so she won through ....

I also got left with a few metres of burgundy velvet that I just could not let go to waste: P

Finally it's all finished:) She's suffered a few minor alterations ... but I think it will do very well.

Photoshoot is over the weekend so pictures will follow:)

I'll do some more work on it when I have time .... like the utiity belt and weaponry.

Love this ^_^ you look really pretty.

I'd be tempted to try the pants again - Ruths artwork reminds me of military breeches..a white or off white colour with matching cloth covered buttons.
Wouldn't have to be expensive to make.. getting cloth covered buttons to match might be hard though. Or maybe if you found the buttons first and then matched some fabric to them :) Would look Fabulous inside Victorian knee high boots.

Ummm..Is one of Ruth's (blonde) characters like totally nekkid!? ^^ Whats the story there? :D

Aw thank you ^.^ I really wanted to stay true to the original concept with the jodhpurs...but my attempt at making them failed miserably. :(

If I can find a pattern that will work for me.....two others and a self made one didn't result in much, then I will definitely try again. :)

And on the plus side....I have some really beautiful victorian boots now ebay find to date ^.^

I like the button idea too!! I have some sort of tarnished iron epaulettes? i think that's what they're called.....but fabric covered ones might be even prettier :)

oh yes and the naked blonde is more of a token gesture. The character she's hiding behind is a bit of a lecherous professor.....

To-Do List

Skirt and bustleHighComplete

Woooo all done. (Posted 8th April 2010)

So, it's a little different from my original concept. But hey that's just the way it works.

So the shirt is more or less as described, but instead of a simple collar....i've gone for a one-shoulderm feathered ribbon. It looks good.

I decided against a bustle for the skirt, unless I can find an exact match to the velvet, anything else just doesn't look right, and to be honest the whole costume comes together quite well without it.
I might do a reconstruction of this costume with a different skirt in a different material, which does use the bustle. maybe.

The jodhpurs were a nightmare....i wanted to do them in leather, but didn't have the time or resourses in the end, so they've turned into pinstripe trousers, which also didn't work very well.
Sooo, I've sewn on pinstriped legs to a pair of elasticated shorts, which are covered by the skirt, and the little hem you can see i've gone over with a lace ruffle.

It looks ok, sort of like a very short pair of drawers :P

The gloves ended up being black, but they sort of go because the choker and stomacher are more or less black.

The choker is genius, I found it in a cupboard, but it ties the black and burgandy together perfectly :)

So far... (Posted 30th March 2010)

I found some nice silk weave fabric that i'm going to do the shirt with. I might remake it later with something different but for the moment I quite like how it's turning out in this.

I've also decided to do pinstripe leggings/trousers...maybe more like 'hose' instead of jodhpurs to match the corset.
They're going to have lace up sides...or so I hope...but that's all underway at the moment.
It's very exciting...but I have less than 2 weeks now to get this finished in time for Ruth's project.
