|Awards :||Best powertools award, sponsered by Black and Decker. Minami 16 April 2010|
|Time Taken :||2 weeks|
|This was mainly made in the 2 weeks up to minami- I had made a body suit and a leg prototype before then but that's when the bulk was made along with the big daddy.|
All the armour bits are made from plastazote, so it's all pretty light weight. I can get into all of it myself, but having a spotter helps things a lot.
All the belts are 4mm leather which were pretty hard work to cut and rivet especially as there were 25 of them in total.
The hardest part to make was the cage as I made a test run which failed beyond belief. In the end I went to Toys R Us and bought 5 high school musical hula hoops and used them to make it. That and the tank are the heaviest part of the costume.
The hemet has 16 LED's in the front port and a fan at the back running on 6 AA's. The fan makes a huge difference to wearing the helmet- at some points it was actually cooler keeping it on! The red visor made it very hard to see at night though, even though the vision port was so large. I can only see red light in the helmet, which made things hillarious as the hotel lift button is blue so I kept pushing it wondering why it wouldn't light up.
The arms both have LED's in them again, and are my favorite part of the costume. The only thing is that the needle sometimes got caught in the pressure valve at the top of the helmet when I put it on and while I scream for help people stand around and take pictures.
It was a pretty nice costume to wear, though I do prefer having my face uncovered. I've got to fix the legs as I broke them during my dive in our skit, but that just means I can improve them a bit more.
And... construction done. (Posted 13th April 2010)
Construction is all done, now onward to painting. Now for the mad rush for minami!
MOAR BELTS? (Posted 6th April 2010)
SO far made... 28 belts for the bioshock costumes. Should be the last of them now!
My hands are thankfull as this cow is 4mm thick, which makes for really tough work.
Leg belts (Posted 6th April 2010)
Made all the leg belts, 16 in total. My hands hurt from tooling all that leather.
