|So we're having a heroes and villains theme for the xmas party. Which is in two weeks arg!!|
I'd always fancied doing this and I have a vaguely suitable wig so I though why not!
It may not be the most accurate thing though, I will only have a week and a half to make it as I have the ball this weekend. Never mind, sleep is for wimps!
OK So all finished 10/12/09
Bodice/underbust corset, is a faux corset. Faux in the sense that it looks right but doesn't actually pull my waist in, I wanted to breath at the party! Made from red corduroy, with plastic boning and gold ribbon. The front decoration is buckram with georgette and gold ribbon the red gems stuck on. It fastens behind the dealing with 8 hook and eyes sewn in with a layer of buckram for stability.
The dress is made from georgette, the skirt is three gathered layers, the main body is just 1 and a little see-through but it will have the corset over the top. The top bust part is a double layer gathered at the shoulders to achieve the slight gathering detail. Then buckram for the shoulder pads and hemmed with gold ribbon again, and more red gems stuck on.
The gauntlets are buckram covered in georgette and trimmed with gold ribbon. I then punched holes in the sides and laced them with more ribbon. Technically I should have put some eyelets in but I didn't have time. So I'll fix that when it gets a re-wear (along with adding eyelets to the lacing at the back of the corset!)
The neck lace is made from 9 strands of gold wire plaited into shape, red gems suck to a small section of gold ribbon then hot glued to the necklace
The headband is 4 layers of the same gold wire twisted into shape with 3 red gems hot glued into place
The knee pads are red corduroy and gold satin with brown leatherette straps, and extra long strap to wrap round my legs. the shoes are a pair of brown gladiator sandals I had lying around
The wig, though not perfect I already had for my Queen Beryl costume, and as the decision to have a fancy dress party was made less than two weeks ago I didn't have time to get a better one in!
going back to work on this for amecon. Mostly making the staff, fixing the fabric over the boobs, as it moved around too much and finishing the shoes properly. Not a great deal to do tbh so shouldn't take long
and we're off! (Posted 1st December 2009)
Fabric bought. Off white goergette, red corduroy, gold ribbon, red gems of varying sizes, gold wire, plastic boning and a zip. I already have some brown leatherette and some gladiator sandles that i can use.
I forgot red cord and hooks and eyes though. So I'll need to head back to fabric land for more stuff.
This isn't going to be the most accurate costume ever, but it should be fun!
