Completed Staff (Posted 24th April 2010)

once the red paint was dry enough for me to touch i did the rest of the areas with green paint and then hair dryed them again, and ta da, but there are loads of mistakes =[ but i will edit those. I know the staff sucks lol, but i have not made a lot of weapons in my time ;)

After spending an hour drying the paper clay with a hair dryer i finally got down to painting it, i drew the lines on the ball with a blunt pencil and then painted it, then used a hair dryer to dry it for another 30 minutes.

Basically i wa going to paint then lines of the staff on, but with the lack of time, i grabbed some red tape i had and swung it round the staff for the pattern XD
the tape i used is usually for wires but it worked wonders for the pattern ^^

fail fail! the staff looks horrible, im so sorry, anyway the triangle bit was not working, i couldn't get it to shape, so i just did what you see. Note to self get better at using paper clay ^^

Ok so i started spray painting the wooden dowel. . . that was simple enough apart from the fact it has been raining the past 2 days and this staff needs to be done for saturday morning >< damn the art festival better be worth it lol. I went to paint the styrofoam ball with paper mache on it, Well that didn't work all the cracks from the paper mache showed through and it looked horrible. So i pulled all of the paper mache off, and spray painted the styrofoam ball again. The paint melted the ball!!! omg i couldn't believe i was so angry ><. Anyway just when i thought all hope was lost, the mail came and so did my paper clay, thank god, i covered the melted ball with paper clay and did my best to make it as flat as possible which failed so now the ball of my staff is going to be lumpy!

Staff Progress (Part 1) (Posted 1st March 2010)

Ok i brought a styrofoam ball for the head of the staff and a wooden dowel for the stick of the staff, the wooden dowel was to long, as garnets staffs are shorter than her, so i cut the wodden dowel and this is what i have so far

These were brought of ebay for really cheap lol, im currently working on the belts that will go on the gloves

Back of bodysuit (Posted 1st March 2010)

The lace was done with eyelets that i hammered together to keep them firm, and because the fabric im wearing is stretchy i then glued them inside the tiny gap to ensure they stayed in place, the lace is just sone orange ribbon that is so pretty =]

Completed shirt (Posted 1st March 2010)

The puffs on the sleeves were done by threading in and out and pulling the thread tightly so the puffs were created in the sleeves.

Pendant (part 3) (Posted 1st March 2010)

Painted with silver metallic paint, i did 3 layers to check all areas were painted nicely and evenly, and the pendant is now finished =]

I brought some clay to make the crown, unfortunatly the clay was awful and wouldn't stick together or take shape, so i just had to do the crown ontop of the pendant quickly, then took me A LOT OF GLUE, to get that pendant to stay in place, then i brought some curtain pins and put one ontop of the crown while it was drying so i could put the chain through and wear it as a necklace.

after studying other garnet cosplays on cosplay.com a friend told me what was the name of the jewel she used for her garnet pendant, so i looked on ebay and found a couple, however no one makes the jewels very big like garnets actually is, so i had to settle for the biggest i could find, i made sure i brought one that shined green in the light as when eiko and garnet connect the pendant does indeed shine green.

Belts (part 3) (Posted 1st March 2010)

After 1 hour on each leg i got both belts done on the legs, i stitched originally with black thread as a guideline, and now have pulled all the threads out and re stitched them with orange thread.

Got the belts, edited them a little bit as the straps were far to long and thick so i gave them a trim, the nightmare was i had to wear the bodysuit while stitching them onto my legs as the fabric had to be stretched, otherwise the belts would be stitched in the wrong places of fabric and then my legs wouldn't get into my bodysuit, i pinned myself about 20 times lol.
