|Mulan is an amazing Disney movie, and she herself is a character that most girls can relate to. Being a huge Disney fan I felt that I had to cosplay a Disney Princess, so I chose Mulan. Her match-makers outfit is a very elegant design and the colours were beautiful, I thought that through making this I would be able to experiment with a few materials I hoped to use a lot more in my future costumes.|
This was originally for my 18th birthday, which was Disney themed, and it proved a good test before Expo. It survived both wonderfully ^^
I used a mixture of Silk-touch-Lycra and Satin, as well as the meshy stuff. I was surprised that they went together well, and it was indeed an interesting process putting it all together. The reason I used lycra for the top (the pink and blue) was because I doubted my skills in making it fit tightly. I used the satin for the skirt and obi tie to brighten it up and because I knew it flow lovely.
The comb was made with fimo, and it was my first time using it. The teeth on the comb went horribly wrong, but over all I think it turned out very well ^^ The shawl was a simple thing to make, but it was an annoying part of the costume as it always got in the way!
Getting There (Posted 26th January 2010)
Well I have 2 weeks to finish this beauty and its not even half way there >< On an up side the last of my fabric arrived and so did my earrings ^^
It begins (Posted 5th December 2009)
I have finally decided to ignore exams and Christmas presents (and christmas in general) to get started with Mulan. I have completed my hunt for fabrics and other materials needed for the costume and the first lot of it has just been ordered! Getting quite excited about this costume now, Progress should be up soon either next week or the week after ^^
