I chose this costume because I had wanted to do a human Ammy for a while but I thought it would be too difficult. I thought that simply because there technically is no human version, so I would have to make the costume all by myself.
Since I am not too strong with sewing, this was a frightening prospect, but I found a way to make it work. I knew that making a kimono from scratch was beyond me, so I decided to buy a base kimono and customise it.
The part that took the longest was adding the red trim to the kimono. I wanted to make the stitch as neat and strong as I possibly could, so it took me a number of hours to add the trim and get it right. The hardest though, was adding the red swirly patterns to the kimono. This was simply because I added them using red fabric paint, so I could not afford to make any mistakes. I managed it fairly well with the use of stencils and careful brushwork. |
