Description
This is an old, old costume - in fact, the first costume I ever did any real sewing on - but I bring it out whenever people ask me what possessed me to start cosplaying Johnny Depp characters. The long and short of it is that someone who bore a striking resemblance to Christina Ricci wanted to make a Katrina Van Tassel costume, but couldn't find an Ichabod and didn't want to do the costume alone. As an androgynous Tim Burton fan, apparently I was the natural choice, and I did love both character and outfit. The only part of this costume I really made was the waistcoat, with a lot of help from my mother. The frock coat was something I already owned; as such somewhat inaccurate, but it did at least have the mandarin collar. The shirt was a blouse of my mothers, the trousers my own, the boots and wig from eBay. Unfortunately I have very few pictures of this costume. When I can, I will find the others and scan them in; in the meantime, have a fuzzy one. This was the costume that confirmed my androgyny and resemblance to Johnny Depp - people honestly didn't recognise me as a woman. Since then, whenever a Depp costume appears, I'm immediately asked if I'm making it!
