| This began after a discussion with my friend about Akira Toriyama turned into a big rant (in the middle of a busy Starbucks) about how he draws stupid footwear. I own a pair of boots from Dorothy Perkins that look very similar in style, so to defend their faux-leathery honour I swore to make a Hero costume (seriously, what do Starbucks put in their coffee?!) I decided to use leggings for the trousers for a ye-olde-hero feel (you're not a real man unless you wear tights!) The rest of the outfit is constructed from nice primary coloured cottons with pleather straps. I altered a Simplicity tunic pattern for the blue top, made an easy long waistcoat with wool stitched details to go on top of that and then spent 2 minutes on the sewing machine hemming a piece of left over red cotton for the bandana. The wig is a nice thick brown one I had previously bought from Birmingham as a generic 'boy wig'. The sword holster is made out of pleather covered foam board with a toy sword inserted (just in case I wear this to a con) and the bag is sewn out of a khaki canvas. Now all I need is to convince someone to cosplay Jessica and I'll wear it to a con. | |
