|If there's one thing I learned from this costume, it is this, which I will share with you all to prevent further mishaps such as this occuring in the general cosplay community:|
NEVER buy stockings from La Senza.
I cannot stress this enough. Unless you want to get hypothetically raped by the stocking fairies, DO NOT do it.
Other than that... uh, yeah, the costume! =D
Upon discovering the rest of the Valkyrie crew were either updating or making entirely new characters for our arrival at Ayacon, the little steampunk-themed cogs in my head began a-turning, trying to figure out what I could do to match the rest of the crew's efforts. I decided that I wasn't quite ready to leave Gen behind just yet, so a new version of her was in order! I got a momentary flash of inspiration with a vision of the skirt, and decided to work from there, with the aim of making a 'formal version' of Miss Genevieve!
The main challenge of this costume was one I've never had to face before: making another version of an original character that is still recognisably the same one. This was particularly difficult with Gen as (as those of you familiar with Flight of the Valkyrie will know) Gen is quite a tomboy, so putting her in frills and a skirt was going to be a challenge no matter what.
However, I'm pretty happy with how well it turned out overall (though I did feel a little upstaged by the other crew members, who made a fantastic effort this time around!), though I think I'd much rather stick to her original outfit if I can help it =P
Had an amazing shoot with official crew photographer Death May Die, and another brilliant masquerade experience with the rest of the gang. Another win weekend, for sure <33
Now, just to get that wig back into a plait... ¬¬
