MCM Expo, May 2010. (Posted 31st May 2010)

He was never intended for an expo so I literally had him on for photos with two of my friends and I think one photo was take by a random person. I had a couple of shouts "There's a Zubat" though when I was carrying him through the event to find Sudowoodo, and thank you to people for the few really nice comments. :)

TA took a few photos for me.
I love a couple of them. It was Zubat being caught in our garden :)
You can see two of the photos on the photo tab.

I have a few, quite major changes to make, mainly with the hood at the back.
Oh and I just noticed my zip wasn't quite done up - annoying!

I completed Zubat a few days ago.
Now, that evening I felt up to taking a photo or two.
I went outside with a family member, but because it's so damn cold we only took one. The family member did not turn off the flash like I asked, so it was rapidly put into the 'RUBBISHLY RUBBISH NEVER TRUST HIM TO TAKE PHOTOS' collection LOL.
This weekend I didn't feel up to anything, but as soon as I get an ounce of energy I'll try again - this time with a different photo man.

The two ears are attached!

Cut the eye holes a bit bigger. Used white tights, white craft foam and staples to make the eye holes so I can see through. (Yes I went a weird way about it, but it worked)

I then attached the Tails...

Hands stitched one ear on. I put some craft foam in the back of the ear, it seems to hold it in shape quite well. I'll just have to try not to swish it *looks worried* The other ear is currently pinned on and I now have eye holes.
The holes for the eyes are quite small so I intend to use a couple of layers of white tights to fill them in. Hopfully this will work.

Then this afternoon I managed to sew the wings up and onto the top.

Just the tails and ears to add on. YAYs!

I used the sewing machine!!!!!
WOW, i impressed myself today, I had a little energy so I managed to use the sewing machine. I had to stand up though.

I now have a zip! Hurrayyy

I now have a mouth...

- cut template
- cut teeth from white felt
- hand sewed teeth to mouth
- pinned/sewed mouth to hood

Yesterday after blowing the electric with the iron, I went to use my sisters iron and table.
The purple fabric was crazily creased - I'm really not sure how or why this was.

So after ironing the pruple fabric, and not being able to get all the creases out..
- I cut the wing template, and 2 purple wing shapes.

I really couldn't decide which was was easiest to make the blue bones of the wings. So I stopped for a while.

After debating with myself I thought I might as well just TRIAL and Error it.

So I tried..
- I cut a template and cut the bone shape in one peice.
- then realised I was STUPID and I needed a one seam sleeve.. which that template wasn't.
- So I spread the fabric to cut it differently.. and.. I didn't have enough fabric. Yes I am very tired and with my state of mind at the moment I really should have stopped then, and thought about it. But instead..

..I decided to do it the other way, and have the sleeve seperate from the other bones... it would make it easier to stuff them anyway and I'd be able to finish them that evening.
- I cut the 2 sleeves and 4 bone shapes.

I then attemped to sew them on, but I messed it up..
I finally gave up trying to fix it about 11pm.

SO, this afternoon I gave it another shot.. I unpicked the things I'd sewn on.. which left some nasty holes in the fabric - I smoothed them over a little but need to iron them.

This time I got it right (although it looks overly messy, and I don't like it that much)

- I pinned, and sewed 2 bone shapes (1 on each side)
- Pinned and sewed the next 2 bone shapes (1 on each side)
- Cut the shapes closer to the stitching.
- Stuffed one side of the bones.
- Pinned and sewed the sleeves.
- Pinned the outer bone to the sleeve.
- Closed up the outer bone.

One wing almost complete..

I then started the 'head' this is going to be a hood all the way over my head. It will have an opening on the front (or back - not sure which until I attach it) that closes with valcro.

- I cut a template and 2 blue shapes.
- Sewed them together and tried it for size.

it looks weird. LOL.

I cut a front and back for the top, and found a zip from my box.

- cut 3 Blue and 1 purple shape for each ear.

- I sewed the pruple shape on top of 2 blue shapes, using purple cotton on top stitch and blue on the under stitch.
- Sewed the above to the other blue shape, and turned in the right way.
- Stuffed the blue that's around the purple.
- BLEW THE FUSE ON THE WHOLE ELECTRIC WHEN UN-PLUGGING THE IRON - OOPS!

- Repeated this for the other ear, not stuffing the 'back' until I attach them to the hood.

I started the ears this morning.

I cut out 2 blue and 1 purple for each ear.
I did a test with one 'set', and realised to stuff it now I wanted I needed an extra Blue peice on the back..

so, I started again...

- got some stuffing from my trusty large bag of stuffing
- using a pencil i stuffed the tail shape as much as possible
- smacked the tail on the floor and jumped on it a few times to try and spread the stuffing
- pulled out any over flowing stuffing, leaving an inch or so of fabric free to sew to the body
- repeated this for the other tail, making it a slightly different shape

- two tails ready.

I began the Tails.

- cut four tail shapes
- sewed two shapes together, not forgetting the tread in the middle to help pull it through when sewed.
- turned them in the right way using the thread I tacked to the end.

I'M STARTING OVER!!!!!!

I had bits of him done. BUT today I found the proper blue fabric I wanted AND I had a new design a while ago.

After a couple of weeks doodling some designs, I'm even more confused than Psycho my Psyduck.

Last night (this morning 2.30am, when I woke from a deep sleep and grabbed my notebook) I finally got something on paper and thought "YEAH! That'll be good."

Looking at it today though, I'm not so sure. It's simple looking (which is good) but a tiny bit more design than my Crobat.
Trouble with it being simple, I am very tempted to add things to it - which makes it look too humanised or too Mismagius-ish.
