|My first attempt at making an outfit pretty much from scratch! Its going to be interesting to see how it goes. I decided I didn't want to look like aaaaaall the other Haruhi's at the Expo , because I'm sure there are a lot going, (which is good because Haruhi is an awesome character! :D) but I decided to be different and choose one of her different outfits. |
This is the outfit she wears in the game: The Perplexity of Haruhi Suzumiya, its my most skimpiest outfit to date, but it seemed to go down well (lol) hehe it was sooo much fun to wear, and really comfortable! Well, all except the collar but that was probably because I had been wearing it for so many hours of the day, I'll sort it out so its a little comfier for when I wear it again. It was great to meet everyone and even going up in the Masquerade! I was so nervous! Haha, but I enjoyed it all the same! Yay Expo! ^^

Finished the gloves and the armband, and now my cosplay IS COMPLETED! (Yay!)
Wig is here and styled and is gorgeous! (Mum said it looked like real hair when I tried it on ^^), also hair ribbons are also finished, they look really cute and I'm tempted to wear them out normally when I go out, haha. Pictures will be up soon, as soon as I find the cable to connect my camera to the computer >.<
Quick update, found some nice elbow-length white gloves, just need to sew the bice binding around the edge and then they're done. Hair ribbons are halfway done (aka, they're attached to a hairband, but I still need to do the two side bows - leaving that for when I have the wig to sort out length and thickness of the ribbons). And finally I found some white knee-high socks to wear too. Am so close to being finished! Eee!
Sword is finished and fully painted with silver paint for the blade, red spray-paint for the hilt and gold leaf for the detailings. Unfortunately the spray-paint melted some of the polystyrine hilt, but I don't think it matters too much, I'll just have to keep in mind that a couple of undercoats of paint does not protect polystyrine! >.<
2 days worth of starching and leaving the skirt to hang up and dry in my grandma's bathroom have proven successful! No need for wires or anything! Starch wins and the big skirt is made of win too! ^^ I love it, it sticks out perfectly and I can't wait to try the entire outfit on all together once it is entirely finished! :D
Started work on painting the sword, its now drying, covered in its white undercoat, and have bought the gold and silver paint needed to give it the metallic look it needs.
The weird gem-thing has also almost finished, it also is just drying, having been covered in plenty of tissue paper, it then just needs to be covered in PVA glue to give it its shiney effect, then glued into its white setting before finally attaching safety pins to it so it can be pinned to by mandarin collar. ^^
Aren't parents great? ^^ I came home from going out today and guess what? I found my dad busy sawing a piece of wood and filing it down to make my Haruhi sword! It looks awesome so far and it is not the basic shape and has been sanded down so its nice and smooth, now it just needs painting and the hilt attached too. :D
Also started work on the weird-broach-gem-thing, the base bit is done, covered in white crepe paper and covered with PVA glue. Will probably give it an extra coat of both before starting work on the gem bit. :)
The top is completed minus the gem-thing which I am working on at the moment with sanding it down before I then cover it in different coloured red crepe paper and pretty PVA glue lol.
Boot covers are also completed (well minus a teeny-tiny bit of elastic to keep them up through the length of a convention) made out of some fabric shaped like a 'V' to get the right shape about my boots when they're worn, with ribbons and bice-binding attached :)
Surgical work had begun on the biiiig skirt, more updates on that when it happens ^^
Have discovered that my big skirt now needs major surgical work done on it to make it the right shape, and she has slits in it which I didn't realise she had until recently (>.<). So am now trying to sort a way of doing that without buying more material (I can't afford to go down to Brighton to buy more material!) - on the plus side, my dad's idea of using net-curtain wire instead of metallic wire has proven successful and I have now got a far better shape and sticky-outy-ness produced by it. Just need to get the skirt the right shape now ^^;.
The top now has its mandarin collar completed and can now sit on the rest of my top so now that is all completed except for the big red jewel.
Bit busy today so didnt get much done, but the sleeves are finished! (Huzzah) and have drawn out the templates for the boot covers and have planned how to make it - though I need to buy more elastic before I can start work on them.
Top is almost finished, have attached the ribbons to the collar and now just need to make the mandarin collar and then sew on velcro so it can easily come on and off over the top of the actual top. Yay! :)
The belt is made of WIN! ^^ I am soo happy with how it came out. Its made out of a black butterfly belt with the buckle cut off and little hooks attached to either side and then elasitcated black string to tie it together. Its surprisingly stretchy but keeps everything in place and is *perfect* I love it ^^.
The mini-skirt was super-easy to make. Its the cut-off from the biiiig skirt made and just is sewn together with elastic at the top. To make the wiggly bit I just cut it with crimping scissors, so that was probably the easiest part of the entire costume hehe. :)
With the top I have sewn on the flower bits and it is now looking very much like Haruhi's top. Have started work on making the turquoise collar, it is hemmed and shaped right, just now need to see about adding the mandarin collar and velcro-ing the entire collar to the top.
I have started work on the main big skirt, the mini skirt and the top! (Huzzah!) with assistance from my gran and her wonderful sewing machine of joy ^^ (Thank you!). It took us ages to work out what on earth kind of shape we were going to make the big skirt out of, it was mostly a case of using LOTS of newspaper until we had decided on a shape that looked right (its a lot harder than it looks! O_o).
Our first attempt at cutting the material kinda failed as we realised what we thought was the right size really wasn't and we had measured it in the wrong place ^^; so that smaller bit of material became the mini-skirt which needs to be finished cutting :).
Have been working hard today trying to add the white trimming to the edge of the big skirt and slotting wire through it to keep it upright and sticky-outy. I'd say actually the hardest part is shoving the wire through the white trimming that was bought ^^; it kept catching on the stupid cotton. Note to self: Next time using wire and cotton, sand down the end first.
As for the top, there isn't much to say about it, seeing as I have NO IDEA how the heck to make a top like that I cheated and bought a white bikini top and am now adjusting that to look like Haruhi's top. Heck, if it looks good and you can't make it yourself I don't see it as a problem ^^. Have just added the red ribbon to the bottom edge of it, and the funny red squiggly thing at the bottom and have currently been working on the blue flower-like bits in the middle, but have yet to sew them on :).
