WIG - 'official' Bad wig, which I cut and styled a bit better to fit my head..

TSHIRT - bought long sleeved t-shirt, trimmed the arms. added buttons, and black lycra as the collar to made the V neck.. Added the white collar from scrap white.

JACKET - made the jacket, added zips, buckles and straps. Clips made from bending wire. Straps made with Cord webbing and using my eyelet press added all the eyelets. Also added in shoulder pads.

TROUSERS - made trousers, added some thick red ribbon to the side. added some thinner webbing and the D rings. Straps and buckles ended up being made with painting craft foam and sticking them to stripes of a leather pillow case.

GLOVES - made gloves of lycra, buckles ended up being made with painted crat foam stuck to strips of a leather pillow case. Added an old studded bracelet.

BELTS - bought a belt with had three belt bits of it. Instead of making it into two belts, I cut out the middle row and then painted the circles silver.

sorry to hear you're having troubles finding belts T-T that really sucks. Is Ebay no good?

it's these fancy buckles that are the trouble. I keep looking on eBay, other sites and as many shops as I can think of. The only place that had them was the shop today, but they only had 1 left, and I need of 18.
I only have tonight, and tomorrow to finish it (plus finish two other costumes), so looks like it'll have to be foam.
I know my luck, I will find the perfect ones after the event.

thank you SO SO much Freya, I was pretty pleased with it in the end, YAY :) hehe, and I totally loved being Michael for the day, I think I liked it a bit too much. Would be so cool to have a bunch of people as the gang in BAD video, for a dance in the underground - OMG That really would be epic. Ohhh ideas hehe

thank you Westie :D This means a lot

I had some help from my sister this morning to finish the rest of the straps. She did a much of cutting out for me so Thank you P!
Also thank you to my dad for bending the metal D's.

I used the same process as the glove straps but longer pleather strips and larger card buckles.

The straps on the gloves and trousers were attached with double sided tape.

I finished just in time, put everything on, put on some black makeup and light brown facepaint... and well, I must say I enjoyed being Michael WAY too much. It looked a lot better than I thought it was going to, and I totally LOVE it. I want to wear it again soon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MJ!!!

28 August 2009. (Posted 1st September 2009)

I got up 8am after not much sleep.. Ready to ignore the fact of a hospital appointment in the afternoon.

I finished sewing on the straps to the jacket. I released the 6 I'd sewn yesterday were round the wrong way, so I changed them around too.

As I wrote the other day I was overly unimpressed with the foam buckles I made.
SO on the off chance I ask my sisters and mum if they had any silver card.. After all that, my mum had a whole pile of different silver'ed card. Silly women. haha. I cut the buckles for the gloves - the main buckle, rectangle and triangle-ish bits.
I then found some black pleather left over from my sisters Legolas costume back in 2004. I cut some stipes of the pleather, and sewed two together to make it thicker. I then super glued the buckle bits to the straps. Also attached some elastic, and the studs on thick leather to the gloves.

I used and bent some thiner wire for the buckles on the t-shirt. As I used pleather for the glove straps I decided make use of the foam covered with duct tape for the tshirt. So the t-shirt was finished.

I then had a not so nice hospital appointment so was unable to do anymore.

27 August 2009. (Posted 1st September 2009)

I was busy making my sisters costume today. I managed to make the top with sleeves, the bottoms with elastic waist and then cut and sew the squares on the top. My sister will be doing the circles herself.

I made some more wire buckles for my jacket. Put eyelets in the webbing and pinned them to the jacket.

Oh, I tacked in some Shoulder pads too.

I also went to my sisters to cut/trimmed/pinned my Bro-in-law's wig.

So I did quite a bit, but didn't feel like much.

26 August 2009. (Posted 26th August 2009)

*Shakes head* I went back to Masons, looked in their boxes of buckles.. I jumped for joy and felt a little floaty inside when I spotted the PERFECT buckle for my trosaurs, I hunted all the boxes but, you guessed it, they had ONE and only ONE. As I need 18, I left it and suddenly didn't feel so positive.

I did get the rest of the zips and some right sized webbing though - at least that's one good thing.

I painted the circle studs on the belt silver and I am now starring at the foam and duct tape thinking - WHAT ON EARTH AM I DOING? *shrugs*

25 August 2009. (Posted 25th August 2009)

three days to finish this.. and it's not going to be done in time.

Went to anyone sewing shop but.. nothing. why is it when you need things you can't find them, then any other time you find things everywhere.

So, i used foam covered with Duct tape for straps. I cut some buckle shapes from white foam and have painted them with trusty Mitheral Silver Warhammer paint..

I was excited as it looked pretty good, but now it's dried it looks a lot darker. Oh well, they will have to do.

Not happy with anything on this.. it's going from bad to worse - excuse the pun.

21 August 2009 (Posted 25th August 2009)

I ... [stops for a while to think if I want to admit to sewing such a rubbishly sewn item]

so, the jacket... with a few things pinned.

Still need two more zips, and some more webbing.. This isn't going to be done in time.

18 August 2009. (Posted 18th August 2009)

I still haven't found clips/buckles.. So, i made the sqaure ones from wire. They are all different sizes as I really don't have the strength to bend them correctly. They aren't exactly like the ones on his jacket.. but.. i had to improvise.

13 August 2009. (Posted 13th August 2009)

As I said before the only Webbing the shop had last week was 2" wide.
I needed it less than 1" wide, but cutting it ment it frayed. I cut slowly and dipped the edges in a line of pva glue.

I then sewed it around the D's and to the fabric, one of each leg.

13 August 2009. (Posted 13th August 2009)

After yesterday I didn't feel up to even looking at the heap of annoyance.
I gave up on the clean hidden seams, and have simply sewn the ribbon onto the outside (NOT HAPPY WITH SELF).
I was taking this far too seriously and I really haven't got my right head on at the moment. I have two weeks to think and redo them if I'm not satisfied.

12 August 2009. (Posted 13th August 2009)

Usually costume making takes my mind off things.. But today, no chance.
I cut and sewed the trosaurs, I restitched a couple of times to get them a good fit (wasn't in the mood to do it sensibley and measure) then came putting on the red part..

I am now on hold for a bit. I need to rethink. I was dumb and decided instead of thinking about it I would start to cut... STUPID IDIOT WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!

Hopfully I can come back to them and not have to redo them.

EDIT: Just realised it's worse than I thought, I did the red on the wrong flippin leg... AGH!

*slaps self hard*

EDIT: I did side sems in the legs, because I didn't think the fabric i'm using would hang right.. I think this is why the red ribbon went so wrong. Dunno.
It looks a bit wrong with seams but at the same time it will look wrong without them.. AGH! I knew I should have waited until my head was right... *shrugs*

I think I'll be starting them again

06 august 2009. (Posted 12th August 2009)

Took a trip over to Masons.. but was disappointed.

I need 5 zips but they only had 4 in the style and length needed.
They only had WIDE webbing. (I bought it thinking I could cut it, and glue the edge so it didn't Fray.. Yeah, I was wishing. I tried all sorts, but didn't work.)
They only had large metal D's, so I only bought the 2 large I need.
They had NO Pvc/Pleather - or anything similar. So I'll be using very wide red ribbon.
No pleather ment I couldn't get any for the straps either.

I did get some fabric for the Jacket and Trosaurs, but not the type I really wanted.. I hate make doing.

EDIT: I'm taking some studs off an old decorated bag for the gloves..

04 August 2009. (Posted 4th August 2009)

Last night I had a quick look in the button box and I found some buttons for the T-shirt.

I didn't have the right kind of ribbon for the V neck so I am going to use some scraps of black lycra (it actually doesn't look that odd)

EDIT: I have cut the V into the T-shirt. I have sewn the lycra on the V and sewn on three semi-clear buttons.

I may need to cut the arms shorter but I am going to wait until I have finished the rest of it

EDIT 2: I have now cut the middle belt from the 'three belts'. I'm going to use the buckle they are already attached to, another belt should fit between them. Just need to paint the circles silver...

01 August 2009. (Posted 2nd August 2009)

After going all over the place hunting out stuffs for my fiance, it turned out to be me having luck with findings.

I found a belt for £2, it's the goldy colour with three strips of belt. Two of the stripes have large circle studs. I will be cutting those two bits off to make two belts. [bad grammer] I will also be adding clay dome shapes and painting them silver to the circles. [/ bad grammer]

I haven't found the right fabric for his t-shirt, so I went against myself and have purchased a long sleeved t-shirt which I can adapt.
I will be cutting the sleeves to the right length, cutting the V neck and adding ribbon and buttons to the V. I'm not adding any buckles to the t-shirt, only the jacket.

.WILL ADD PIC TOMORROW.

I looked in my two local sewing shops, neither had cording - EEK! I just hope a trip to good old Masons (a short drive away) next week will serve me better... I have a large list.

31 July 2009. (Posted 31st July 2009)

I couldn't decide what fabric to use for the straps. I decided against the jacket fabric as this will be too flimsy. I then found some black cording (there is a word for it but I can't think) in my craft box.

There was enough to make Five of the Jacket straps. I just hope I can get some more the same for the rest of them. Each strap has 4 eyelets. I need to buy some buckles.

I hope it's not going to look odd having different fabric for the straps.. eep.

EDIT: I just found an image on google of an Official Fancy Dress Bad costume, and looks like they used cordstuff .. doesn't look too odd, so I think It'll be ok.

30 July 2009. (Posted 30th July 2009)

This morning I went to my local hardware store and sewing shop. BUT the shops failed me :(
I am sure last time I was in the hardware store they had the exact clips I need. Obviously I was remembering somewhere else... And the sewing shop had NO silver zips. Crazy.
A trip to Masoons is in order I think..

This evening I am attempting to make the base gloves. I'm not sure the best way to do them...

EDIT: I have made both glove bases, don't have the clips yet.

29 July 2009. (Posted 29th July 2009)

When we decided to do our MJ day, I automatically said "YUP YUP, BAD BAD BAD!!"

So, today I bought an eyelet puncher. I spent an hour trying to figure out how on earth to use the thing. Then .. I.. well... I decided to ask someone, and then I felt very STUPID to say the least!

I have no idea where I'm starting on this, no idea for fabrics.. but at least I have eyelets haha!

EDIT: I forgot, I was in a fancydress shop about a month ago looking for other bits and bobs, when I saw 'Official BAD wig' - there was only one left, so I took it as an Omen, and bought it. It's not as good as I thought it would be, but well, my hair is currently overly thin (due to illness) and so this wig is the best I can do.
