| I wanted to cosplay Zatanna because not only becauseshe is one of my favourite DC characters, but also becuase her outfit is so awesome and I haven't seen many Zatanna cosplays, which is a shame-- she needs much more love! This costume was assembled from pre-existing clothes, so all of it was fairly easy to put together... I think the hardest thing was actually feeling confident enough to wear it out and about! The tophat was borrowed from another costume, and all of the other pieces were bought locally. | |

Analysis (Posted 1st February 2010) Well, Zatanna is all done now, and taking a look back I guess my legs don't look QUITE as bad as I thought they did. Well, they do in some of the pictures, but it could be worse :) I'm a bit upset that I didn't make more of this myself, but I think it's safe to leave scratch building a tail coat for a few years!! That deos mean I'm not participating in Feb Expo's masquerade, but I'll be watching!! Here's a price breakdown of everything I have! For photo purposes, I'm looking into getting a cheap white rabbit teddy to hide in my hat, as well as a 'traditional' magic wand- y'know, thoese ones that are black with white tips? I've also decided that even though I'm debuting Zataana at Feb Expo, she's re-surfacing for the Kitacon prom, so look out for her there, too :) As for hair and make-up, I'm thinking dark smokyness around the eyes with a thin line of liner (will need practise!), and straight hair with slight wavyness at the ends. I SHOULD be re-dying it black, too, which means even though it's proably just an inch or two too short, I could pass with my real hair. :) |

Concious :S (Posted 30th January 2010) Okay, I don't want to sound whiney or any of that stuff, but I've finally got it all together, and I put it all on and... yeah. I just didn't feel as good as I thought I would, which left me in an immense downer for the majority of the evening. My legs... they look like tree trunks!! :( |

It's been a while... (Posted 12th January 2010) I'm resurrecting Zatanna if cost allows, for Midlands Expo Feb this year. Borrowing Ryuk's top hat and everything else is fairly easily accessible... but Tailcoat is £45 but it's antique and lovelyyyyyyy and do want ~~~ |

btw my op on the waistcoat/no waistcoat - I think looks better without this particular waistcoat. It is squashing your bewbs in tight. ..Zatanna has the voluptuous look about her. Her waistcoats are usually under bust type - which act like an underbust corset and give her bust a bit of lift. Basically she wears her bewbs out front. :D :D :D

As for the shoes, they're a size 7 from New Look. These particular ones we're 12 because they're a semi-old line, but they've brought out a new line EXACTLY THE SAME at £20. The only difference is the interior of mine is baby pink. The new ones are a garish gold (ew!). If you're near a New Look, take a peek! Me and Ryuk found a dozen shoes in this style (Some suede, some leather) but it was just finding the right size- they had plenty of larger sizes but I needed a 7 to fit me snugly. *whew, essay*
As for the waistcoat, to be honest I would have rather had one to add oomph to the boobs! Especially a white one, but the one I wore I had lying around so I thought 'why not.' I think I'll take a better look at the shirt once it's taken in, and go from there! :)

I can say such a thing because it's true. My tailcoat was very badly finished, plus I don't have hips :/ plus Zatanna really suits you. :)
I was thinking, another thing you could use instead of waistcoat is a white under bust waist cincher/waspie.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen those padded panties before. I may invest in some for future cosplays.. For Velma I have just fixed some pads into the corset to give my hips a bit of curvyness. ^_^

Faye I thought you looked FAB at Midland Expo! Yes I did see you, I got there late, and I saw you as I was rushing in to sign in at the cosplay desk - but you wouldn't have recognised me without my costume on. You were bare feet too, and I was thinking 'where are those lovely shoes?'
For some reason you were on your own and I didnt spot Luke.
Then I spent aaaaages in the cosplay changing room putting my makeup on.. when the masq show was starting I was still in the changing room painting my nails with red nail varnish! So when I was finally ready I had to sneak past the audience through the double doors to the left of the stage into the waiting room.
Then when the masq show was over I was looking for you guys in the crowd but I didn't see you anywhere. And I hung around by the stage hoping to meet you :( Sorry I missed you to talk to. I hope you really enjoyed the Midland Expo even though we didn't get to meet each other this time.. I mean that for Luke and Bambi too.
