Me as Rikku

Shoes halfway!

Costume Information

Cost : £35
Time Taken : 2 Months

My Rikku costume wasn't too difficult, was my first cosplay so though I'd start with an easy one! The shoes were rather tricky TBH! I took some old hiking boots and cut the tongue down to create the right shape, then using blue and white swimming costume material I fabric glued it to the shoes, however the friggin stuff kept slipping so I ended up using pegs to hold it in place. One that had dried I glued white ribbon round the top and yellow laces to the back. In the end they were really comfy!

The other tricky bit was the belt bag, I took a cheap (gotta love primark) fabric webbing belt and covered it in yellow strong cotton, the sewed more cotton onto cardboard to create strong bags, then sewed them into shape, created holes in the front and put eyelets into the and threaded orange ribbon through.

In the end it was a comfy-ish costume, my bikini top kept riding up which was rather annoying, but I did put some hotpants under my skirt which made me feel a little more comfortable!!

Overall it was a great first cosplay, entered the masquerade, didn't win but the competition was amazing so didn't mind, did manage to make it into Neo magazine though!!!

Nice Rikku cosplay! It's nice to see you've made a real effort with the detail on the shoes.

Thanks! Shoes were an old pair of hiking boots covered with swimming costume fabric and ribbon, was a pain in the bum getting it to dry, had to use wooden pegs to hold it in place while drying!

Swimming costume fabric is awesome for cosplay. I just wish it was a bit cheaper. Love the pose in front of the neo stand!
